I recently spun #3 rod in my 6.2 Jcode Turbo diesel. My ? now is do I rebuild the 6.2 and carry on as usual, (Ive had the cam bearings installed and some block/head work done already) or to I take up a local mechanic on his offer of 3 diesels for 600$. (1) a 6.2 w/ a rod hanging out of the pan. (2) A natually asperated 94 6.5 diesel that is supposedly locked up. and (3) a 94/5 Turbo 6.5 that was a running take out... Regardless of what goes back in,, I intend to tear it down and go through it... my main objective in the 6.5 is the rear main seal being a one peice... my 6.2 has a 2 peice,,,, which leaks no matter how much I play w/ it. another concern is milage... this 6.2 is getting 17 mph in a K30 crew cab dually while running highway speeds as best as a 465 can..

I think I'd just fix the 6.2. Since you already have the block/head work done and the cam bearings you are already halfway done.

If the crank is all right (probably is), what I would do is drop the pan, roll in a set of bearing inserts, and be done with it (maybe replace the oil pump while you are in there).

wll my 96 6.5 in a 3500 hd gets about 16 or so but it is a 11700# wrecker but has good power my 91 2500 j code gets about 22 mpg with 410 gears and good power so if you already have some work on the 6.2 i would just go with it and you can add the turbo off the 6.5 and have a rebuilt that you know is good with a turbo):h
