Looking for "expert" advice on what is the proper method on transfer case selection for hauling wagons. I'm talking about 300 Bushels+. I'm assuming it's pretty much given that you use 4Lo to get them out of the field. Once on the gravel road or blacktop road, then what do you do? Go to 2Hi or keep it in 4Lo?

On gravel 4x4 is fine. On blacktop it should be in 2x4.

It sure seems to lug the crap out of the truck going in 2hi. Seems like it's got to be hard on the tranny?

I've always run 4HI out of the field unless it's muddy or wet grass at the edge then shift to 2HI in tow/haul at the road. It does tend to lug at first but seemed to work ok with the LLY. Haven't pulled any gravity wagons with the LBZ yet... Just double hay racks.

Go real light with starting out and you'll be ok.

Have a SAFE harvest season!

Do you have a shock abosorbing hitch on your truck or are you using the stock reese hitch?

When I help my brother-in-law during harvest time I have been using the stock hitch with a reese adapter with no ball. Sure gets annoying getting jerked around.

Next time though, I am going to get one of these.

I've got just the stock chevy hitch.
My friend has a schuck hitch receiver that I've used in the past. Last night I pulled one with just the regular square tubing receiver (no cushion) :badidea: . I thought it would be okay cause there was only 250bu of beans in there. WOW! coming out of the field, it frigging pounded the crap out of me. I'm probably gonna have to invest in the cushion if I'm gonna pull with any regularity at all.

I Love those Schuck hitches never pull anhydrous without one. Really smoothens the pull and makes hooking up so much faster.

I don't think anything beats a DMI bumper, but the Schuck is a damn close second when pulling wagons or implements.

we use DMI big difference especially on chip-n-seal road that have been roughed by various types of plow and farm equipment hitting it.
