I hope someone can help. I have a Class A RV with a 6.5L. I've been having trouble starting it. I just had it to a mechnic and he replaced the injection pump for $1150.00. I still have the same problem. It is very difficult to start in the morning but I can get it going. If it warms up and I shut it off and leave it off for more than 10 minutes it won't start again until it cools down some and then it is still difficult to start. If I shut it off and restart it right away when it is hot it starts right up with no problem and the starter seems to spin faster when I start it right up after shutting it off. I'm at a loss of what to do next and I'm also out $1150.00. I sure appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks! By the way, I only have one 950CCA battery to start the RV??

Mechanics should have to wear a patch over one eye so you know what there all about.
I would say it's your battery and/or connections. I can tell when there's connection trouble by how long the glowplug cycle takes.
If it's too short or too long it's usually the terminal connections and posts.
Try cleaning them with a base like ammonia or baking soda if there's any corrosion and then wash all the base off and reassemble.
if the posts or battery bolts are too gone, buy new ones.

I can usually tell when one of the two 850cca batteries I have is down, I can't imagine only having the one. That's asking for it in that the second battery is needed.Edited by: quantum mechanic

I am assuming your glow plug cycle is normal as far as the display on the dash in that you see the glow plug light cycle on for about 20 seconds and then go off at which time you attempt to start.

If so then you have to check to see if the glow plug relay is in fact putting out 12 volts to the plugs. Test this at the glow plug relay output terminals and then at several of the plugs while the relay light is on. This will prove the relay and the wireing going to each plug. If this checks out then test the continuity of each of the plugs by removing the wire from each plug and testing from the spade on the plug to engine ground. Replace any plugs that do not show continuity. If several show bad replace all of them.

Unless the mechanic did something realy wrong when setting up the pump this should fix your starting problem.

Don't know what year your RV is but that pump is warranted for 120,000 miles or 11 years. If it was a GM shop you may have some money coming back.

Thank you both for your replys. I'll give them a try. My motorhome is a 1995 and I only have 125000 miles on it. It wasn't a GM shop. I should have been a little sharper and probably did some research before I brought it to a mechanic. Thanks again for your suggestions.
