Lots of threads on this if you want to search. Most say you don't have to worry a whole lot about it. Personally, I drove it hard from day one. Good luck~

Drive is hard and it will perform amazingly!! Treat it like a baby and power levels will follow. Diesels are meant to take abuse so make sure to break her in as hard as you can. I've thrown 500hp at the trans and it hold just fine so don't worry about the trans.

Just make sure to break her in like a sailer on leave :ro)

Read the manual. It tells you how to break it in and it was written by the company who provides you your warranty.

I did'nt break mine in with the "drive it like you stole it" method.I basically followed GM's advice, but did'nt baby it either.Truck runs awesome--there is no reason whatsoever to run it so hard during break-in.You should treat your engine just like a virgin--pays benefits later. Now if anybody knows where to find one of them--please let me know.:joke: :joke:

Really??? Thanks. I kinda thought the purpose of forums was to get different peoples views/perspectives on things.

Maybe I can find the serch button also.

Nosdog2,

Views and persectives are just that. GM backs their warranty because of empirical data as in they tested it far more then this site could ever do. Designing a product is easy and relatively cheap when you consider all of the testing that has to be done, building testing equipment and facilities, hiring testers, reviewing test data, etc.

Evidence of that is on this very site in the form of the chip folks asking us to be beta testers. Why because they can't test everything and they want to save money.

So when somebody shows me enough empirical data that says beating on your truck when you first bought it is good then I'll do just that. Other wise varying speed and laying low will do just fine for me thanks. I know why GM suggests to break the truck in that way. It has to do with thermodynamics , strength of materials, etc.

If you want to know why I know this it is because , I attended the GM Auto Design school in Flint Michigan.

I did a bit of normal breakin routines like varying speed on the fwy to seat the rings but C'mon its really hard to keep your foot out of the LBZ, basically I have driven it hard from day one and I'm at 3600 miles in a month and a half and the power and fuel economy have increased a bit. Think of who test drove your truck before you.........I drove three of them and twice without a salesman (yes they tossed me the keys and said go ahead) and I beat the crap out of them, tried the "m" mode and hit rev limiter often someone else is driving those trucks.......but thats what sold me on the truck..........the GMC dealer is right by my office and I watch the mechanics bet the crap out of customers cars and new ones.......its like a 3 mile straitaway.......hmmmmmm its in Laguna Niguel CA, I'm sure some know what dealer I'm talking about.

Just be mellow and dont tow for the first 500 miles then drive it like you normally would to seat the rings just vary speed on the hwy from 50 to 80 aceelrate and decellerate slowly for about 50 miles and thats it.
