Hi folks, I wandered in here and registered in hopes of finding some impartial):h info on my quest to enter the diesel world. I have been advised by many people that there are only 2 real choices and Ford isn't one of them. What say you?

Most in this group would say CHEVY ALL THE WAY... The Duramax is a great engine and there are many, many performance upgrades for it and the Allison trans is simply amazing.... So good that Ford copied it...
I was into gas engines for a long time but now that the new diesels are much quieter I will be staying with diesels for the future.
There is a hugh amount of info just search around some....

Thanks for the comeback! I have done some searching but of course each brand has its fans... I understand that.. but maybe the impartial site I'm looking for doesn't exist.

You will find may stories such as mine where I owned 2 Fords an F250 V10 CrewCab & F350 V10 CC and switched to a Chevy 2500HD 8.1L w/ Allison and found that the Chevy towed much better than the Ford, more stable. I just recently switched my 2500HD for a 3500 Dually Duramax and just love it.
There are other people that have the same story as mine but just change the brands.
I dont know your situation but my best suggestion is determine what you will use the truck for ie: towing, hauling, crusing and then test drive all 3 Chevy, Ford & Dodge... However for maximum towing capacity the Fords wins for now until the new GMT900 chassis specs are released..

some will also agree that the cummins is a strong rival to the duramx....but...what makes the duramax so much better than the cummins is the allison...

There are other great diesels out there but why mess with success. My 2001 duramax is quieter, powerful and fuel effecient. It has been trouble free since new. What more do you want.

I saw a similar test performed by another group (I can't remember where) that reached the same conclusion.
That article was what convinced me to buy a GMC. Now all I have to do is go pick it up this Friday.

I fell into my 03 GMC Sierra 2500HD and love it! My father in law has a Ram 3500 single rear wheel and can't get better than 17MPG. My brother in law has a Ram 2500 and same MPG. I can get about 20 empty. I plan on keeping my truck for a while. I have 101K on it and hope to get 500k with maint!

#1 I say buy which one makes you happy and looks the way you want. If you like the function and the looks of one over the other you will feel happier and have a higher perceived value.
I love my 06 LBX Duramax and Allison 6-speed. I have owned the other two as well. Each and everyone has a few weaknesses but which one you get depends on you.
Dodge has a bullet proof and proven Cummins engine and nice dash and interior, but the rest really isn't much to be desired
GM (Chevy/GMC) Great engine tranny combo heavy built frame and basic interior even with all the bells and whistles.
Ford with all the various Power Strokes depending on the year and model you'll have a great engine so engines are hit and miss. Trannies are weak compared to the engines, but the frame is the strongest of them all. The later models offer nice interior but at a hefty cost. The King Ranch is extremly expensive and has a nice interior, but the reat of the interiors are average.
I'm sure you'll get a lot of answers on this one, but I say enjoy your truck. You're guaranteed to get crap from the owners of the other models no matter which one you get.
Test drive them all. Make sure you drive the exact same set up that you would buy.
Good luck!

Fords suck. Duramax and Cummins are both excellent engines, but the GM rides better. Allison tranny can't be beat. Advantage GM. Oh, and GMC's are alot purtier than Chebbys.
