: Went to the Track
GreenDuramax04 06-19-2004, 01:08 AM Just got back from the track. Made 4 runs with the truck.
The first pass was on Level 5. Spooled up the turbo a bit and spun like hell in first and second. Went 15.79 @ 91mph. Hit almost 1500 deg.
Second pass was on level 5 in 4wd. No spool, I turn off the 4wd in second gear but I think it stayed in 4wd the whole pass. Went a 15.39 @ 89 mph. Also hit almost 1500 deg.
Third pass turned to level 4 in 4wd. No spool, Turned off 4wd in second but again I think it did not disengage untill I let off the pedal after the 1/4 mile. Went 15.60 @ 86 MPH. Temp did not reach 1400.
Fourth pass level 4 in 2wd. No spool, I dialed a 15.50. Left really good, felt pretty fast. Went 15.13 @ 87 MPH on the brakes. I RAN OUT... DAMN. It would have been a high 14 sec. pass. But I did feel good about the pass. I'm sure I'll hit 14's next time. Just need to learn what the truck likes. Egts were not too bad on that pass either. Looks like I go fastest taking off from an idle. Next time I'll see how level 5 does from an idle. I just need to keep those EGt's down in level 5.
Trippin 06-19-2004, 01:13 AM Nice times! Your right about turning off the 4wd mid pass. It waits until the torque comes down before switching out. It's always good to be safe but I don't think 1500 is sustained long enough in a 1/4 mile pass to really do any damage. Have fun!
Burner 06-19-2004, 02:51 AM I'll agree with Trippin, 1,500* won't hurt a thing. However, your are killing your trans....... back to back runs can hurt even the "Big Boys" trannies, and your stock? Man 4x4 and a hard launch is about as deadly as it gets for a stock tranny.
Although you did a really good job for a first timer.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif
BTW, how many lbs did your Attitude show before ya dropped the break?

Micheal Tomac 06-19-2004, 07:32 AM hot-lapping doesn't hurt mine http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
GreenDuramax04 06-19-2004, 12:16 PM Max boost of the night was 25.6 max EGT was 1436.
The runs were not back to back. They were over an hour apart.
Yea, I didn't like the 4wd thing. I think I'll stick to 2wd and just launch a little softer.
I don't really figure on hurting any thing at the track. I pretty much drive my truck like that on the street too. It was a little strange only going 15 sec. in the 1/4 mile. I'm used to my race car that goes 10's.
Got Juice? 06-19-2004, 12:33 PM 4x4 launch... fully staged build 15 PSIG boost (post CAC) then when the light turns green off the brakes, mash the pedal and hit the 2WD button. Xfercase will shift out of 4x4 on the 1-2 upshift and you will be off like a rocket!
If the tranny can stand it you should log a 1.79 60 foot time and a Q/M at around 97mph@14-13.7 seconds

I have never tried the shift out on the transfer case does it really work like that? If not i can see the gears stripping on the way out ! Ouch~! If so , that would be way cool !!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
sdaver 06-30-2004, 09:47 AM it will not release until up into 4th gear
Micheal Tomac 06-30-2004, 11:01 AM mine won't come out of 4wd until I let off at the end of the 1/4 mile
hdmax 06-30-2004, 12:37 PM I agree with mtomac on this. I have used 4x4 on a few accounts and it will not go back in to 4x2 until I let completely up off the throttle, and even then it take a second or two.
heartbeatcanada 06-30-2004, 01:05 PM 4x4 will not disengage without letting off the go pedal. No matter if i'm racing or plowing snow, its still engaged even though the 4x4 light is switched to 2wd, until the pedal is released. I wish it would, as thats whats killing us 4x4 racers times and mph on the top end http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
Got Juice? 06-30-2004, 01:14 PM I wonder if i have a xfer case problem then.... my only issue with this is it has been inconsistent at best. About 70% of the time it will come out of 4x4 on the 1-2 shift the rest of the time it behaves like others here. stays in until you lift/shift into 4th gear.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Carbon04 06-30-2004, 09:19 PM right lane..........4wd launch 2100rpms. 4wd does not come out until I am brakingafter the 1/4.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/ABF_DSC01135_Small.JPG

As soon as i let off the brakes i punch 2WD my thumb is resting on the button so when the last yellow goes out on the tree and the bake comes off, i have already pushed the button.
FASTOYS 07-01-2004, 10:21 AM Carbon, how big of tires are you running and do you use Tow/haul mode when running the 1/4 ? Nice times!!
hdmax 07-01-2004, 08:57 PM As soon as i let off the brakes i punch 2WD my thumb is resting on the button so when the last yellow goes out on the tree and the bake comes off, i have already pushed the button. That in its self shows that it will not go back in to 2 wheel drive. Even if it was to go in to 2 wheel drive at the 1-2 shift as you stated before, your truck as well as many others here with 500-650 hp would spin through 2nd gear and have a bad race.

IBDMAX'IN 07-01-2004, 11:07 PM Nice time slip Carbon,
I just wish someone up here in the clouds could hit numbers like that!! you sure don't see it very often unless the side of the truck is sporting a ATS banner http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
Carbon04 07-01-2004, 11:28 PM my truck actually ran the same (within .03) as another dmax with the ATS trans and the TST powermax box at the DHRA race we had a few weeks ago. I was scratching my head with that one.
Diesel Power 07-01-2004, 11:35 PM mine won't come out of 4wd until I let off at the end of the 1/4 mile
Same with mind... a few seconds after i get off the go pedal..
