Does anyone make a single disk torque converter for a 03 ally??

I'm wantin about 400-425HP out of my truck, what will I need to do this??

I've been lookin at the PPE stage one kit and then a gettin a different brand tq because I'm not pay 5k for a full tranny or 1,300 for just a tq.

So I'm basically askin, whats the lowest cost (no the cheapest) torque converter that will hold my hp goal.

This truck will be for fun and weekend drivin only. No towin, drag racin or sled pullin.

A stock conveter will hold it for awhile but will not last for the long haul. It all depends on how long often you use full power. I don't know of anyone still making high power single plate converter for the allison.

Ok then what is a resonable priced triple disk tq??

I see BD diesel has one for 850. TCI makes one but there to much a "car/gas" company for me. I mean I've put in 2 TCI street fighter torque converters (1 in a turbo 350 the other in a 700r4) and they were great but I'm not sure on there diesel stuff.

Anyone else other than suncoast and ATS??

I mean ATS and suncoast are good products but thats alot of dough but it may be the only way to go.

They may seem expensive, but doing it twice would probably cost more.

Pretty much all the triple plate converters are around the same price, our's included. $850 is cheap for a triple so make sure you've got the right price and what you are getting for that.

TTS
ATS
Yank
TCI
BD
Suncoast

All make triple plate converters for the duramax as far as I know.

IIRC, the BD (BD Brake in Canada) is a dual disc setup with two different diameter discs on the same plane...

Sun Coast still offers a single disc on request. The converter has a billet cover with a 60% increase in clutch area over the oem.

Dual disc converters: The dual disc converters I have seen utilize a smaller friction area in the center. The mean radius of this friction is such a small # it has a nominal affect on torque capacity.

I have a DTT single disk TC in, and it handles everything I can throw at it.

IIRC Suncoast makes one too!

There is also PPE, they make a very quality torque converter. Try them. I have it on my truck with 650+ hp.

PPE is a quality company with great innovative products which I use, but they do not make a converter. They do sell the top 2 converters on the market today.

Just be real sure you do what you say if you get a single disk. Nearly three years ago I told Mike L. the same thing and bought a single disk converter, and within a year I was out at the track and shortly thereafter back at his shop for upgrades. Back then there was a bigger difference in off idle performance between the single and triple-disk converters.

Today's triples have excellent driveability and you get the extra holding power to boot. Since you're looking for 150 additional rwhp, I'd strongly recommend you go with a triple disc converter.

If I was to just upgrade my converter, what would it do to my vehicle warrenty?

It shouldn't effect your warranty although if you were to have driveability (Allison) warranty request your dealer may balk.

Isnt all of PPE's allison stuff just rebadged products from someone else?

Thus far I have had good experience with both TTS and suncoast converters. Joe at suncoast will pretty much build you anything you ask......dont go by whats on thier site, they will do just about anything if you ask even if its not listed.

If you're just looking for a cheap single disk converter you may want to check out Roadrunner. They sell a larger single disk for about $400-$450. I don't know anyone running them though so you may want to check around or do some research them before you buy. Good Luck

Ok, sorry, I didn't word it correctly. I understand that if something was to go wrong with the Tranny after I upgraded my converter, that I shouldn't expect it to be covered under warrenty. However, if something was to happen to the engine or anything in front of the converter, or any other part of the bumper to bumper warrenty, will that not be covered? I have never used a converter other then stock on any of my vehicles. Are the triple discs that much more noticeable than the stock, that the dealership would say something is not right and look into it and try to void all warrenty?

MY suncoast triple sure does look different from stock. I would bet that a tech wouldnt know the difference.

Mine is probably a five-star from PPE like I said. Three times the size of stock. Its amazing:ro)

Dealer has to prove your converter broke something on the engine. Last time I checked it's hard to prove a converter took out your injectors or turbo?

Then you have an ATS converter. They make the 5 Star, not ppe...
