I already know the stock xm antenna will work with my sirius sportster.I've already pluged it in and tried it.What I need is about a 6ft ext to run from the oem antenna plug behind the glove box to my sirius unit. What have you guys used to do this.I've looked and come up with nothing but one guy selling it on ebay for $50.Way to much in my opinion.Anybody make one themselves?I can't even find the connectors to make one.

I have looked into this myself... The antenna leads come about 3 feet long and you need two for the factory set-up. Problem is, these are $33. +/- each from GMdirect.com ($60.+ from the dealer). I bought an aftermarket antenna that came with a 12 ft cord ($35.00 ebay). Problem solved (for me).

May I further mention that one could buy one more 3 ft section and just grind/file off the "key" on the end and it will plug in.

I put XM in my non XM equipped truck. I don't know anything about the Sirius working on the XM antenna deal... I just gave my input regarding the antenna extension. I did not want to drill a hole in my roof, so antenna relocation was my intention. It was alot simpler to go aftermarket and grind the "key" off as I mentioned.

Here's my thread from way back... http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70651

As you see, no one answered it for me... I guess since it's in my truck and working that I know what I'm talking about.

There is a thread here somewhere about hollowing out the factory XM antenna and installing the Sirius guts in it. No, I'm not going to find it for you... Do a "search" on it.

I unpluged the oem xm antenna from the oem xm box behind the glove box.The plug looked identical to the port on my sirius sportster replay.I pluged the oem xm antenna lead into my sirius sporster replay and it worked fine showing 3 bars signal strength.Only problem is its hard to change channels when the sportaster is behind the glove box.Need an extension cable to extend from the glovebox area to where I have my sportster mounted.I found someone selling a cable made to whatever length you wanted on ebay a few days ago for around $50 which I felt was way to high.I just did a quick search again but couldn't find it.Would'nt be that hard to make if you could find the right connector ends.

Only reason I want to use it is if it works and is already installed. Why not use it instead of trying to mount another antenna.I absolutly hate the magnetic mount antenna's.

This is a post I did a little while back........costed me $33 with shipping for one 16" long....contact Brian via e-mail he custom builds the cables to length.

Sirius SIR-GM1 using factory XM antenna
With my free 3 month subscription to XM coming to an end and all ready having XM before I wanted to switch to Sirius and give it a try. I heard allot of great reviews and began doing some research on converting to Sirius. I read many forumns and discussions on the use of the factory XM antenna. There were several opinions from everyone. Some saying it did not work, it did work, and some who had simply not tried it and ran a new antenna. I purchased a SIR-GM1 tuner for my 2006 GMC2500HD (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=1569) Sierra, rec'd it today installed it using the enclosed cables with the unit. I also used a XM to Sirius adapter cable built for me from mrbrianrwebb@comcast.net and I can say that the factory XM antenna will work with the Sirius unit. I listened to Sirius most of the afternoon while driving and had no problems. Just hope this helps others who are questioning the use of the factory XM antenna. :ro) Sirius Rocks!

well isnt this nice to know. thanks guys. and as for the above post...if all you listen to is country music, then i suppose xm could be great...but as for anyother genre of music i felt it sucks too. Its too bad because i liked the fact that it was already built into the truck stereo

Ditto on xm's suckage.I originally got sirius over xm for the football thinking the music would be pretty much the same.My neighbor got xm and between hearing his and the free trial with the new truck I'm really glad I got sirius. It blows away XM. OCTANE 20 baby, gotta love Kayla. My cable was $36 including shipping.I'll post the results when it arrives,it'll be installed the same day.

Octane all the way :ro) Buzzsaw is awsome too. But then again so are most of the other channels. Theres almost too many to choose from. but thats a good thing compared to the xm

I like Sirius, My Lady Likes XM. I already have the Pioneer HU with the XM module. But I want to Put Sirius in the truck as well.

Has anyone made a plug to make the Factory ant plug into a aftermarket xm module? Would a dual output ant work. So basically retain the factory ant on the roof, but make it have dual outputs. 1 for the xm module and 1 for the sirius module??

3 bars of signal is not that great. Are you talking about the bars on the main screen, or are you going into the signal strength mode through the menu? I think there are 10 bars that are shown. How many bars there?

I was referring to the main screen,3 bars are all that show there,my receptions been better with this setup than before with the little crappy antenna that came with it and it's a more professional looking installation also.

I got mine through Brian as well, excellent product and worth evey penny. I got the Sirius "brain" and switched it out with the xm one and with the new plug it was easy as pie. Keeps the stock radio and works great.
