: Massive oil leak and gas leak, help!!!
I was driving down the highway, and my oil pressure went to 20, the fuel gauge also dropped from Full to a Half in a couple of minutes. I got it to a stop light and the oil pressure dropped to 0. There is oil all over the undercarriage. Checked the oil and there is none registering on the dip stick. What the heck is wrong???
Grey Ghost 09-24-2006, 07:39 PM You have bad injectors, which filled your crankcase with diesel. Get it to a dealer, preferrably on a wrecker.
Your not seeing anything on the dipstick because it is all diesel.
A quick search for "diesel in crankcase" should yield you quite a bit of info on this.
If your under 200k miles, there should be no reason for this not be covered under warranty.

Thats what i thought at first also. So the crankcase holds my oil, but how do the injectors have anything to do with the fuel getting into the crankcase? Just asking for knowledge. Did i lose all that fuel because my crank case filled with diesel, or did it come out somewhere else also? So it filled the crankcase with diesel but why did all the oil come out and go all over my under carraige? thanks for the help!!!
Grey Ghost 09-24-2006, 08:29 PM The injector(s) has failed (probably cracked) under your valve cover(s), and the diesel drained through the oil drain holes in the head, leading back down into the crackcase. The fuel filled the crank case, mixing with the oil, and it all came out of the crackcase vent located at the front lower-left side of the engine. It continued to do this until you shut the engine off.
If you run very long like this you will have major problems in the lower end of your engine (crank and rod bearing failure).
In other words, it is in your best interest that you don't drive it until you get it fixed.

i drove 5 to ten miles from when i first noticed white smoke and my iol pressure being low. Will that end up with lower unit problems or is it kinda iffy. Thanks for the help. You've been really helpful!! Glad this happened now. I am putting a chip and an afe stage 2 intake on it this week. Well maybe not now for a while. What all should i make sure they do as far as cleaning the crankcase out and stuff like that? Thanks again, Dane
smokin dmax 09-24-2006, 11:56 PM Your dealer should have already had plenty of experience with this as most '01s and 02's have had them replaced. mine were replaced 1 month after buying it (used). My dealership was very good: got it finished in two days, very helpfull, no questions asked about edge... covered under 200K injector warrenty. I have a verry good dealer tho... some on here are not as lucky
Grey Ghost 09-24-2006, 11:58 PM 99.8% chance its not hurt. Some have driven a lot further with no detected ill effects. It's just best to be safe than sorry.
Part of the repair procedure is to change the oil and filter. They will probably change the fuel filter also.
I personally would change the oil again in about 1000 miles, or even less after I got it back.

smokin dmax 09-25-2006, 12:06 AM oh and once your injectors get replaced go ahead and install your parts. I haven't had any problems out of the new ones (the new ones are supposed to be better and most people have had no problems with them) It has yet to be proven but aftermarket programmers don't affect injector life. Most people including my self run a fuel additive because experts say most diesel now days lacks good enough lubrication for long injector life
DJ13, how many miles are on your truck?

I have right around 103500. Baught it with 99,300 on it.
They said that the injectors were in perfect condition when i baught it. Could that be true and they really just went bad in the last 3000 or should they have been able to tell that they were going bad?
Smokin d-max- I am friends with the GM of my dealership so i should get taken care of pretty well. Also what brand of fuel additive do you use and when do you add it, like every tank or every 3, or what? Thanks
Another question for you guys- Would my injectors going bad make my mpg be lower and will i get better mileage with the new ones?
Thanks again for all the help and info. You guys are awesome. :ro)
Also i know this isnt the place for it, but where is the best place to mount my edge module. Thanks!!!
packfan 09-25-2006, 01:06 PM Where does the oil/diesel mixture leak from? Front of engine or back of engine? What engine part does it leak from?

they can go bad in less then 1000miles... im pretty sure off one tank of gas if the diesel has little or no lubrication in it
so what brand of fuel additives does everyone use.
Well the dealer just called me and said it was in fact the injectors. Said it would take until wednesday. Thanks for all the help guys!!!! :ro)
Hey do i have a 100 dollar deductable on my injectors or no. Dealership says yes but i have heard no from numerous people. Just dont want to be wrong when talking to the GM of the dealership. Thanks guys, Dane
MaddDogg49 09-25-2006, 07:30 PM o ok umm some stealerships want a 100 dollar deductable... some its 50 and some its non
sometimes that 100 is for filter changes
smokin dmax 09-25-2006, 10:30 PM I try to use FPPF total power. However, around here you cant buy it except on-line so if i dont have any of that I use DieselKleen. They have that at pep-boys,autozone,walmart,etc... thats the best one you can get at those places. Search for "best fuel additive" it has been discussed alot. I think they decided FPPF was the best and stanadyne was very good too. They all have lubrication additives, ceatane booster, injector cleaner, water displacer, etc...

I actually just found this exact thing from searching around a little bit ago. Should they pay for my tow too. Or is that kinda whether they want to or not? Oh ya and how often do you put the additive in? Again thanks to everybody who is answering all these questions!!!! ;)
Well am going to go pick up the truck here soon. They covered everything!! Even my tow. Am very happy but then again my dealer is awesome!!! Thanks again to everyone for all the help. Ya'll taught me a lot in the last few days. Thanks again, Dane :ro)
Mad4aMax 09-27-2006, 08:40 PM Our pleasure DJ13, hopefully you don't have to mess with this again!
Ya no kiddin. I drove back home, 45 min, and when i stopped the front end was smoking. I looked at my gauges and everything was fine so i figured it was just nasty sh$$ burnin off. It did it for a while and then finally stopped. Scared me big time. Am putting in my chip and intake on monday so i am prayin that everything goes smoothly. Have a good one ya'll. -Dane:thankyou2
imfixinmopars 09-28-2006, 09:53 AM keep an eye on the edge, sometimes they cause problems that look like the trucks taking a crap, but its the juice.search this site and look at some of the problems.just a friendly warning,so you dont panic and send the truck back to the dealer.edge treated me real good with updating the box and its been working well.you will be amazed at the performance increase, but watch the trans, egts ect.this site will educate you more on the duramax more than anything,so search and read.i went from a 5.3 to the '03max,then added the perf stuff, and wow.cannot fathom what some of the other truck feel like with all the 'good stuff' on them.look at the 1/4 mi times on these guys,WOW.good luck!
Thanks. Ya i have read a ton about the edge and everything else about the trucks. My girlfriend and friends give me sh$$ all the time because all i do is sit on my computer and read diesel forums. last night i studied my edge manual instead of writing a paper. :ro) O well. Ya i am hoping since this is the new version i will be problem free, but you never know. Somethin always seems to go wrong. I have had a lot of trouble with the truck, not the truck itself, but when i first baught my wheels and tires i had a blow out five miles down the road from putting them on. Broke 2 lug studs. girlfriend put the back end into a basketball goal causing 1200 dollars of damage. This is all within 2 months of buying it. So i am crossing my fingers and taking all precautions when i run and put in my chip.
Ya some of these guys 1/4 mile times are insane. I cant wait to see the power increases. :muahaha:. Thanks again to everyone ill let ya know how she does when i juice her up!!!!!!!!:grd:
