: progression of power upgrads
lots of toys 06-18-2004, 10:57 AM I've got the regular Juice (90 hp) and 4" exhaust. I would like to know from those that have gone thru different power upgrades to know what a good progressioin would be. For example, I'm guessing the next upgrade with be the hot Juice w/Attitude for 145 hp. Then should another chip be stacked or should one of the tuners be used? I'm looking for progressions of upgrades. What it takes to go to about 150 hp, then 200 hp, then 250 hp, and then 300 hp. Yes, I know that anything beyound 90 hp WILL REQUIRE Alli upgrades. Assume that Suncoast level III would be installed first.
I haven't seen or been able to decipher this info from all the posts, so I think concise explanations would be helpful for a lot of people. I'm also looking for mainstream products that minimize chances of destroying something, easy to install, good after-sale customer support, reliable and are the best value.
Thanks.
Max Power 06-18-2004, 11:08 AM You could get the attitude which would give you 125. Then go hot juice/attitude 160-180.
Hired Gun 06-18-2004, 11:28 AM What version is the 125?
Trippin 06-18-2004, 11:52 AM Transmission.
ratlover 06-18-2004, 12:08 PM Version # wont tell you if you have a 90 box, or a hot one.
A trany, a big tune, and a bit extra air(turbo or N2O) would be a nice starthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
So how fast do you want to spend...err...I mean go? What are your goals?
If it smokes like a freight train it needs more air and if it burns clean it needs more fuel......wait now it needs more air again. The cycle of POWER! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Not quite that easy but the pursuit is a blasthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

gmccall 06-18-2004, 05:52 PM Hm.......From my past experience;
(1)The (hot version 145hp)Attitude is a must if only for the guages. There are other boxes which I have, but none as smooth and easy to drive with.
(2)Allison upgrade, Most trucks don't seem to handle all the 145hp power without the Allison upgrade.
(3)Stacking boxes now, but I am no authority on it. I wanted the programers for their tuning and reprograming options as much as to make horsepower.
For the 250 + hp numbers ((I'm not there yet) ; well, The tranny will cost you more than the horspower.

White Duramax 06-18-2004, 09:03 PM I would upgrade your juice to the attitude and make it the hot attitude. That way you have gauges. Then get an intake. Transmission - depending on how far you want to go, you want more than a stg 3. After that get a tuner or ecm to stack with the juice. Then injectors and nitrous and/or turbo!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
duramaxdiesel 06-20-2004, 11:09 AM Does Suncoast offer anything more than a stage 3?

Its pretty much; How much are you willing to spend. If you want more than a stage II, convertor and all, You would be better off purchasing the already built tranny and having a local (qualified) shop install it. Go price it. I even looked into keeping my tranny and not returning it for core. The core charge was about $1200 and your stock tranny is worth much more if its still in good condition. I liked the idea of the complete tranny because you don'y have to look for a local qualified shop to install the "kit". I just did not want to spend that much overall. I was either going all out and spend "big bucks" or the $3700 I went with.
For a Stage III + core charge and installation, you may spend $6000 + when you you drive your truck out of the shop.
My Suncoast Stage II with Convertor and installation cost $3700 + -.
ratlover 06-21-2004, 11:33 AM I'm planning on doing the rebuild of my own. Still 10% up in the air but I've pretty much made up my decision. I think a stage 3 in kit form is 2200 or so. Or Eric or some other guys will do a stage 3 for not a whole lot. 6k is way high IMO for a stage 3 out the door. Its not actually much more than a stage 2. anything over stage 3 isnt available in kit form though, you gota buy the whole deal from suncoast. There is ATS too.
gmccall 06-21-2004, 12:26 PM Yep prices are down some from Suncoast from 6 months ago. I should have waited.
However, to continue the discussion...
I have recently seen install quotes in the $1400 range. My install alone cost me $1733, but that did include transynd fluid. At the time folks on this site said I paid to much for the install, but the local Allison tranny shop was the only shop that would do the install.
A stage III kit is advertised at $2195 (+ tax ?)today. Six months ago the Stage III was not offered to me. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
Today, the total built tranny price is $3695 + tax. If that includes torque convertor that is great, if not well ......then add the convertor price plus tranny only install and core charge. Again, I include core charge because I am not going to give up a perfectly good Allison for a core charge. Just my preferences.
