: About To Purchase an 07 2500HD With A Few Questions From The Pros Before I buy...

Hello,

I currently own a 2003 Cadillac Escalade ESV and a 2006 Cadillac CTS-V (430hp), and I'm looking into a 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4x4 with the new DuarMax engine. I'm really into the aftermarket scene with all my cars, and would definately do the same to a new truck. I have some questions for those of you that already have this truck or something really similiar if you wouldn't mind helping someone out before they buy, so here it goes...

- I'm looking at taking the stock 360hp motor and would like to get 600+hp out of it. I've seen kits around that can reach these numbers for about $5,500 installed (No Nitrous) which basically include all the chips, intake, exhaust...etc. Is this about right or way off? Does $5,500 seem to be the right price to get the engine up to over 600hp installed?

- Assuming the truck was modified with the Banks Tuner, intake, exhaust...etc all the goodies. Can I expect to be dumping out smoke in this newer diesel engine, or has that been rectified in the newer versions (I honestly like the smoke, but that's just me).

- Assuming the truck is putting out 600+hp from upgrades, would it actually be able to pull on muscle cars such as the Corvette, or even my own 430hp CTS-V sedan? I'm assuming no because of the sheer weight factor, but maybe I'm wrong.

- Regarding tire spin, how much power do you need to produce to smoke your tires from a stand still without having to cheat using power braking or other methods. I want to just slam the throttle and light up the tires as I'm going down the street in my diesel... is this possible?

- Okay this is probably a harder question to answer, but I'd definately want my truck to have a fairly nice lift kit. Don't have exact specs on what I want, but I know I want more of the higher kits with large chrome tires. Looking for probably a 10" lift with 38-40" tires...etc (You get the hint what I want)... Anyways, what should I expect to pay for such a lift for a 4x4... 8K...10K???

- Of course I got to ask about fuel mileage.. a 600hp lifted 4x4 truck I am assuming won't get much gas mileage.. maybe 6-7mpg??? My 06 CTS-V gets about 8mpg, and my 03 Escalade gets about 6mpg, so I'm curious...

So I got this little idea that I can get this top of the line LT3 4x4 Silverado with a nice Diesel engine, slap $5,500 into upgrades to hit over 600+hp and another $6K into a lift and I'm the cooling person in the city... obviousely I'm coming here because I doubt it is so easy, but only the experienced will know.

Looking forward to reading your replies...

Mine is bone stock and will smoke the tires. For racing look at the "kill stories" section of off topic. These trucks can be tuned into 11s, and I beleive there are some 10s out there.

Intake, exhaust, chip and tranny mods to start with. That will get you well on the way.

I dont think 5,500.00 is going to touch 600 hp. If you want anything like that, your going to need to upgrade..

Transmission - Approx 6,000.00
Programming- 1,000
Twin CP3- 3700.00
Head Studs- 1200.00
Turbo- 3300.00

These prices are guesstimates, talk to NLDP or other supporting vendors for actually pricing. Good luck!!!!!!!

X2 but with good tuning (DIY EFI live) if you can't tune it yourself that will be another $1K, but who knows how long the motor will last at that power level daily. And a 600 hp truck would be a hand full for daily driving.

Hello,

I'm missing something here (which is why I came to these forums). From what I see out there, it isn't going to cost ove $15,000 to get 600+hp from the engine (again, could be wrong). Here is how I see it...

Stock Engine - 360hp
Intake+Exhaust - +85hp
Banks Tuner - +120hp
Propane Injection - +75hp
----------------------------
Engine Output - 640hp

(Assuming some of my numbers are too high, even if we take off 40hp were still at 600+hp at the fly)

I see from http://www.illinoisdynocenter.net/DuramaxLLY.html that they will add 250+hp to your stock 360hp engine for less than $4k installed. That is 610+hp at the fly for under $4k.

Commercial version of EFIlive is around 800.00 dollars. It will get the Hp where you want it. You'll need the Duel CP3 to supply the fuel. You will need the transmission first so it doesn't grenade on your first full throttle pass. Might want to read up on a few things. Do a Search you'll find a Lot of useful info on this site. Folks around here mean serious business with their trucks.

Hello,

I can definately with no doubt about it understand that with 600hp the tranny needs to be upgraded to handle the added power. I can also see what you mean about adding a special fuel rail to keep up with fuel demands. So with the simply upgrades I listed and the tranny and fuel mods the truck could withstand 600+hp without cra**ing out, or will I need even further mods to keep the truck reliable?

Your stock tranny will not handle 600 hp, that will have to be a definite upgrade.....

Lots of people running around with 500+ hp trucks that are reliable for what they are. Remember that these are well built and will take a lot of abuse. Take note with that much hp and torque they will not live as long as an unmodified truck. Talk with Mcrat, Kennedy, MikeL (these are just some that I can remember) and some of the other vendors on this site. They can get you setup just the way you want and as reliably as possible.
The Higher your Numbers the Less Streetable the truck will be.
