: Power Service DFA - no alcohol

Previously there have been discussions about Power Service DFA being a poor choice due to the possibility of alcohol being used to emulsify water - and that the PS company would not confirm or deny alcohol as an ingredient. I just checked out their website and product "Diesel Clean/Cetane Boost" (silver bottle) and also the winter equivalent (white bottle), and they now specifically state that no alcohol is used in either product.

So....other than the fact that they are probably an emulsifier (like Primrose and FPPF) is there any reason to not run PS in the duramax? I have been running Stanadyne in mine but sometimes it's hard to find. I can find both the summer and winter Power Service DFA's just about anywhere I fuel up.

I did run the PS summer additive for a couple of months last year before I found out about the alcohol concern, and did not have any problems.....

I DO know that only Stanadyne is GM approved....

Comments?

Try buying Stanadyne by the case on line. That way it's no harder to find than stubbing your toe on the box in the garage.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifI get mine from Blue Ridge Diesel in VA, but I'm sure there are folks much closer to you.

I've been using PS since the truck was new and haven't had any problems....I'm going to switch to Stanadyne though only because it is approved by GM and I think it will be just as good as the PS

Was using Total Power, just switched to Shell DFA. Partially as the price is much better, good lubricity and others have spoken well of it.

I've been using the Syanadyne. I also buy it from www.dieselpage.com (http://www.dieselpage.com)

The Stanadyne works real good. I had the surging idle problem before I used it. I ran a tankful with the Stanadyne added and the surge is gone.

I add the Stanadyne regularly now to the tank about once every 1000 miles. I like to coincide it with a highway trip and when I am towing. No scientific reasons. I just figure it might work better at cleaning when it's under load.

During the winter, when it drops to the low 30's, I add it every tankful.Edited by: JohnnyO
