: Loading the turbo
LBZ06 09-22-2006, 10:42 AM I realize this is a dumbass question but I have to ask it here since you guys would know.:D
My truck is bone stock ( info in my sig ) and I do not drag race and I don't plan on it in the future. I do however race motorcycles and like speed.):h
After having numerous guest passengers request rides in my new truck , what's the best way to show them it has a bit of kick?
I hear about loading the turbo for a much better launch than just flooring it but I don't know how exactly to do it or to what RPM is best for a dead stop launch in 2HI. So gimme the scoop please?
Thanks , and sorry for sounding like such a tool.
wsucowboy 09-22-2006, 11:48 AM Hold down on the brakes until she feels like she is about to let loose and then take your foot off the brake and floor it! For even more fun do the same thing in 4wd!!! -Jeff
LBZ06 09-22-2006, 11:56 AM ahhhhhh ........ thanks.
Is there a set RPM to hold it at for a certain amount of time or just for a couple seconds?
subman631 09-22-2006, 11:58 AM Yes hold it down till you see the RPM's hit about 2000 then mash it to the floor and let off on the brake. If you want to impress yourself consider one of the new power adder mods they now have out for the LBZ such as the Edge or PPE. You might want to invest a little into the tranny if you decide to go that way. Talk to TTS or Mike L about a Trans go Jr. kit for your tranny. Leaving a Dmax stock should be against the law.;)

Just play with it a bit till you get the result you are after, don't be afraid to try it in 4x4 if you get too much tire spin in 2 wheel. 4 wheel won't spin the tires much but it will put a kink in your neck if you are not ready for it.:p:
LBZ06 09-22-2006, 12:05 PM Very nice! Thanks for the replies.:ro)
I will have to try that , I have the stock 245's on my truck still and have no heartache over burning them down since 285's are going on soon.
I will let you guys know how it works for me.
Oh and , I don't think I will try it in 4wd yet ...... with my luck I would break something.):h
ratlover 09-22-2006, 02:49 PM 1000-maybe 1500 RPM or so is about all 2wd will hold on the street.......if you want to fry the tires then wind it up till the brakes wont hold and let her lose :D
LBZ06 09-22-2006, 03:03 PM Looks like I just may have to take my chicky out for a ride tonight and see if I can scare her with my new technique.:muahaha:
billygoat7c 09-26-2006, 11:05 PM howd it go?
LBZ06 10-02-2006, 11:12 PM howd it go?
Well , I installed the Superchips Flashpaq today on level 2 of 3.
I had to spend some time driving around today , stop and go to let the Allison learn the tune.
I did get on it a few times , and I did try the turbo loading.
I brought it up to about 1800rpm for about 2 seconds and released the brakes.
All I can say is , I don't know if I did it right but when I let off the brakes the tires were rolling smoke.
I guess I have to work on the loaded launching because I was quicker off the line without loading it.
Pure Diesel 10-02-2006, 11:20 PM Loading to high of an rpm. Take it down to about 1500rpm and try that. If your smoking to much put it in 4-wheel. Don't do this too many times unless you get some sleeves on the tie rods. Then the carnage will begin):h .
LBZ06 10-02-2006, 11:25 PM Yeah , I don't see doing that on a regular basis. I'm not looking to make a habit of it , I just wanted to feel a solid launch from this truck.
Nope , not doing any 4WD launches. I know when to fold.

You probably don't have any gauges yet, but your truck really won't perform off a boosted launch unless it is in 4x4. a 1500 rpm launch in 4x4 will not hurt anything, it will show you what a little boost will do however. If you really want to see what your truck will do then go ahead and spend the money to make sure you don't hurt it. If you are not willing to do that then leave it stock and enjoy the greatest stock diesel pickup made to date.:ro)
LBZ06 10-02-2006, 11:37 PM That's good advice, thanks.
I agree with you , you have to pay to play. Since I bought this truck for towing and never owned a diesel before, I unexpectedly stumbled upon the fact that these diesels are pretty quick.
I don't have gauges , no other mods , so I best just step away from the drag scene before I find myself spending a whole lot of money on a new addiction hahahaa

When I bought my truck I too didn't know much about them, still don't really. I bought a hand held tuner, (Quadzilla Stealth) and immediately put it on the highest tune, (120hp) and limped the tranny after a few hard runs. I got addictied and the rest is history. It is really difficult to describe how quick and powerful these truck can be made, you really have to experience it for yourself. I think the most amazing thing is the power at the top. Gassers are usually quick off the line then kind of hold on at the top. These diesels just keep pulling hard. I have never driven any vehicle that will get from 60 to 120 faster then my diesel.
You have the fastest and most powerful diesel pickup ever made as far as stock trucks go. Neither Dodge or Ford come close in stock trim. Good luck and have fun. :ro) Subman

Its too late. You've already been bitten, the venom is in, its just a matter of time before it takes over.

Haha , I already race motorcycles at 170+ MPH. I think I will use that as my anti venom.:muahaha:

Yeah, we'll see.;)
Pure Diesel 10-03-2006, 10:11 PM Yeah, thats what we all said in the beginning. I'll just buy a programmer for the speedo, but I'll try it in level 3. The next thing you know, your bank account is empty, your selling things off to pay for the next "trick" I mean power modder and on and on.):h

it happened to me, started with a 80hp module and now it is the juice w/attitude, next is a tranny then some more power, its never ends, you can always have more than what you do have.:grd:
LBZ06 10-03-2006, 10:41 PM Hey , I know the drill all to well. I'm just saying , I bought this truck to support my 2 wheel racing addiction by being a tow vehicle.
Now I find out how much fun they can be and yes I can see how I would get detoured into modding it and becomming a " Max Addict " (<----- you heard it here first ):h ) but I just have too much else on my plate to let that happen.
So uh ...... how much will a good exhaust, cold air intake and tranny mods run me? :muahaha:
Tolliwacker 10-03-2006, 11:47 PM And it starts............................................ ......
