On at least some of the 6.2L’s , ’83 and ’84 at least, there is a switch (several actually) mounted on the side of the injection pump that controls the emission stuff and the lock up torque converter in the transmission. I was wondering if anyone else has had these switches go bad and what you did to fix them.
I was way out in the middle of absolutely no place along the Mississippi/Alabama border when mine went out. I could only limp along at about 35 mph and had 150 miles to go to get home. After I got home and found out what was wrong I decided I needed a different arrangement. The switch is in one of the worst locations possible, and it is not even a sealed switch. I used a microwave oven door switch and a fuse to make a permanent replacement. It has worked for years.
I would be interested in hearing about other fixes, innovation counts.
