I'm looking to purchase HP Tuner or EFI Live. Some folks offer a 500+HP tune with purchase of EFI Live. I was curious if anyone had this type of tune with HP Tuners?

You could order a preprogrammed ECM from Moonshine (Tony). It is an EFI live based program with a pile of work and effort put into it. It can be set up to have a tow tune on one side of the ECM and a race tune on the other side (with the use of a switch). He will customize the tune for your needs. The tune and spare ECM will run you about $1295.00 US but it is well worth it in my opinion. You will not get EFI Live or a programmer but a programmed ECM which takes about 10 minutes to switch out.

Thanks for the feedback. If I've read correctly McRat offers a free race tune with the purchase of EFI Live.

I suppose everyone has their very own reasons for purchasing a tuning package.

My particular reason is that I like having maximum tuning flexibility and yes I want to learn enough to create my own great tune.

However, I am more than willing to learn from those who are far more experienced than I, so I will happily take all the knowledge these folks are willing to supply. After all, we know nothing until we learn it, and being taught by knowledgeable folks in most cases is a quicker way to gain knowledge. Most are here to share and maximize their knowledge on the Duramax Diesel, any contribution is greatly appreciated?

That's a point I tried to make in the EFI Live forum and didn't go over so well with the "consumers" there. I wholeheartedly agree...

theres a v6 product that hpt competes against that also offers an email tune free of charge with the purchase, the fact is if you talk to and ONE of their own guru's you'll find they all dumped the mail tune and started from scratch once they put a little time/effort into figuring out what does what. Im sure people will start putting up some starter tunes on the repository on www.hptuners.com soon once that starts happening it will be a non factor IMHO.

I don't believe that anyone should or would give away there tuning secrets to be shared by the world.

It takes countless hours on the dyno and on the street to develop a tune the does everything right and time is money.

If you buy an ecm that is preprogrammed it should be locked so that no one else can look at it with HP tuners, EFI Live, or whatever.

A locked PCM is a problem if it ever needs readjusting it must go back to the original tuner if he is still in business.

Buying a tuning package is great for all who are interested in spending the time it takes to learn the software and learn what the engine wants.

If we give away our tuning secrets we would have no reason to go to work.

For those interested in having more power better fuel mileage, and a clean tail pipe you should seek out a professional tuner with a chassis dyno or full access to a chassis dyno who owns and drives a model similar to yours :D.

I give a lot of credit to Tony He has more street driving, Dyno Pulls (About 150 on my dyno alone) and trips down the 1/4 mile than anyone I know, a True testimate to the durability of the Duramax and his dedication to tuning it.

I am also tuning the Duramax now with HP tuners, I have had the Beta version for several weeks now and I draw from my 26 years
experience building and racing engines gas and Diesel.

I hope this information is useful.

And you left out one helluva nice guy. Knowing Ted and visiting his shop and having him adding performance accessories to my truck along with numerous dyno pulls he's never one to push anything but always willing to help with his EXPERT advice!

Don't assume anything BOBO unless you've meet the man. Just a quick walk around his top shelf facility seeing the projects and work he's performed tells the story!

Ok....back on topic. We all know Ted is a salesman among other things. I dont see you pointing this out about other vendors bobo so it makes me wonder what your motives are. Lets keep this a positive discussion

Absolutely but not in the content that BOBO was implying. I can say that with certainly knowing Ted Jannetty and his staff! ;)

I agree Phil back to topic.

I don't think I am going to go in that direction, not enough guys who want to drag race there pickups.

I will focus on a Spit shined tune that will do everything well to meet the needs of the masses that travel across country pulling trailers.

Hey maybe I will call it Spitshine, what the heck, Tony has Moonshine;)
