: have pred and edge..which to use?
skidooracer_99 09-19-2006, 08:42 PM just bought the truck off my dad, he has the edge w/attitude installed in it now. and also gave me the old predator he had in it before. not sure which version the pred is but im guessing its the first one. mileage doesnt seem the greatest with the edge. doesnt matter if its on 1/1 or 1/5 or 3/3 ect. just wondering if i would benefit using the pred instead and on which lever? or is there a perfect combo of both of them that seems to work awesome.
brich6600 09-20-2006, 08:24 PM Don't know if you have a LB7 or LLY, but my experience with the edge 1.2 and the pred 2.02 there is no comparison. I have a LLY. Edge be good for towing and daily driving. Pred good for that and everything else. My truck liked the predator a lot better and so didn't I. The edge defuel hard and I think it was harder on my trans. I currently run the Pred on 85 tune. Edge you had to wait for it to warm up before anything anyways, a pain in the ***. Predator in my opinion. But they both have there ups and downs. Try them both and compare, thats what I would suggest. Different trucks like different things. Good luck.
hog_face 09-21-2006, 12:23 PM I would leave the edge in for the monitor but use the predator for the tune and tire gear calibration (if you other than stock size tires).
I have both but usually only run the edge level 2 since I tow almost daily. I have the predater just to check codes, fix the speedo, and remove speed limit. Just have refrain from stacking the tunes.
RaceHemi 09-21-2006, 12:35 PM By the time you buy an Edge, a Predator, fingers stick, and boost stick you have more money invested than if you were to buy EFILive software or an EFILive based tune from one of the tuners around here, like Kennedy or Tony. :confuzeld
skidooracer_99 09-21-2006, 08:47 PM how involving is it to get the pred upgraded to 2.02? is the first one really that bad or whats wrong with it? also whats the highest tune on a pred i should use without killing the stock tranny?
brich6600 09-21-2006, 09:19 PM The only problem with the old version was supposely it ran hot EGTs. I never ran it, but was told less boost, hotter EGT. But if your running the Boost stick you are all set. With the old version Pred you should be able to run the 85 stock tranny fine everyday. I do mine. Anything they say over 90 rwhp will start playing games with the tranny, depending on how you drive. Good luck and have fun.
skidooracer_99 09-21-2006, 09:46 PM ok im gonna try that 85 tune for a while and see how it goes. also how do i tell forsure which version i have, i cant find it anywhere? i wanna keep the edge on stock for the gauges, what do i have to do to program the pred with the edge still installed?
SleeperTRK 09-21-2006, 10:53 PM Id use both at the same time
brich6600 09-22-2006, 07:23 PM It will tell you the version when it starts up, you plug it in. You don't need to do anything to hook them up. The predator reprograms the computer, and the edge modifies the parameters as they are sent out to the engine. Just program the predator in and leave the edge installed. Your done. Good luck.
skidooracer_99 09-24-2006, 04:11 PM well i installed the pred, just set the edge to stock. and it is just version 2.00 I only drove it a few miles but sofar im not too happy with it. installed the 85 hp tune. the edge on 3-5 seems to be way more responsive. also it shifts all goofy. feels like its slipping or defueling hard on everyshift. and thats just normal driving. ill give it a few days yet but i was expecting it would be better than the edge.
SleeperTRK 09-24-2006, 06:32 PM your trans is hurtin, be easy on her unless you want to drop about 3-5 grand
beach_33 09-24-2006, 06:51 PM the trans is learning. just take it really easy on it for awhile and it will get better
skidooracer_99 09-24-2006, 08:22 PM another question, it says to remove the radio, radio amp, and info fusess before programming. and i did do that. but is it really necessary. it just seems like a big hassle if im gonna be changing settings often.
SleeperTRK 09-24-2006, 09:26 PM No its not nessasary, I always turned the radio and ac/heater off just cause. I never removed any fuses.
