: Edge Juice/Attitude question
HBruns 06-15-2004, 05:37 PM Does the Attitude kit include the necessary EGT probe, fittings and high-temp thread sealer?
One would think that it does, though I cannot find this explicitly stated on Edge's web site.
What else does one need when you buy the Edge Juice/Attitude combo?
Thanks!
HBruns
Max Power 06-15-2004, 05:48 PM Yes it includes everything except the high-temp thread sealer which isn't necessary.
The only other thing you might want to look into is the ats overhead mount.
HBruns 06-15-2004, 06:33 PM Excellent - Thank you for the quick answer!
tbone1227 06-15-2004, 06:35 PM Where do most people mount the attitude - ive seen it overhead and im assuming with the ATS set up, and this is probably a newbie questions but how are the wires then run to the control panel ??
Max Power 06-15-2004, 06:42 PM I have mine in the overhead console. It is the nicest looking IMO. However it is not great for visibility.
The wires are run up in the windshield pillar. There is just one wire.Edited by: Max Power
tbone1227 06-15-2004, 06:46 PM what are all the readings it takes ? and is it easy to install ? Thanks

tbone1227 06-15-2004, 07:27 PM Thanks for that info - i guess i was being lazy and not going to there site - how easy/hard is the set up/install ?
Max Power 06-15-2004, 07:38 PM It is easy to install except for the pyrometer probe. It's not hard either but you have to drill and tap the exhaust manifold. Search here for 'hoot method' for more info.
Yes it includes everything except the high-temp thread sealer which isn't necessary.
Maybe it's not necessary, but if you ever have to pull out the collar for anything, you'll be glad you used it. Or at least I used it on mine.
Max Power 06-15-2004, 08:27 PM Well I used an anti seize compound. Perhaps it's the same thing. I don't know.
McRat 06-15-2004, 08:43 PM You will need to buy a 1/8-27 taper pipe tap and 5/16 (.312) drill bit. Since the casting is thin, a Letter R drill might be sloppy. I also used a #3 center drill to get it started. And probably a few of the snaps that hold on the fender, as they get destroyed easy. If you need the PN, I can find it.
If you do not anticipate having to remove and plug the manifold, you don't need anti-seize. The manifold is only 0.100" thick, so I really doubt that it will be too tough to remove the sensor even if you don't use it.
The whole install including pyro took me 2 hrs, and I had never seen one before. I think the only tools I used were a power drill, a tap handle, and a 7/16" open end wrench.
It's actually pretty easy, but don't drink too much coffee before drilling and tapping the pyro. It will make you nervous.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

The same Ole way we use to by selecting level by way of gearshift indicator and go peddle ....
You will get conformation ,even with Attitude installed,by going from park to reverse back to park with engine running...
You can always plug the Attitude in, select your level and leave it under the hood tucked away safe from harm until your ready to mount .... I know of a couple people doing this ...

Hey Mac.....how are they keeping the dust and other crap out of it? Are they keeping it in a bag ?
Hired Gun 06-16-2004, 09:00 AM Any pics. of the overhead mount?
Mackin 06-16-2004, 09:10 AM Amberjack
It's a sealed unit ,I don't worry about it .... I actually have it stuck to the Under Hood electrical center .... When I do some spiffing up under the hood I just remove it to ensure no water enters the unit ...
I already have gauges in my truck so other then setting the low boost and defuel all shifts and Max power level ,I personally have no use for it in the cab ...

tbone1227 06-16-2004, 11:11 AM Thanks Mac - that is exactly the information i was looking for as im having gauges installed and had been thinking about getting the setup and using it for testing in a stack
SpeedTherapy 06-16-2004, 11:28 AM I like the idea of being able to read the monitor without having to take my eyes off the road. I made an L shaped bracket that slides under the instrument panel bezel and attached the monitor with velcro. This location also makes it easy to route the wire along the dash/door weatherstripping. The wire is routed through the kick panel and through the rubber boot that houses wires the door controls, through the fenderwell and into the engine compartment.
If I want to hide the unit, all I have to do is tuck it in the fuse panel area on the left side of the dashboard.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/845_Monitor.jpg
BH in AZ 06-16-2004, 02:09 PM Mac,
Do you have the EGT probe hooked up to the Attitude monitor?
If so, do you have two separate probes, one for the Attitude and one for your gauges; or are you running both off the same probe? If you have two probes, where are they mounted?
Thanks for the info.

Mackin 06-16-2004, 02:33 PM I have one Autometer EGT Competition pyro in the driverside manifold ....
Runs to the gauge on the pillar ,needs to be higher only goes to 1500* ....
I'm gonna have to draw some hashmarks for 6 and 5 O'clock for the upswing ... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif

gmccall 06-16-2004, 02:37 PM what are all the readings it takes ? and is it easy to install ? Thanks
You now have the readings the Attitude guage gives, but IMO its not that easy to drill the manifold for the EGT readings.
I seem to be one of the few that had a tough time. The drill size Attitude calls for was too small and when I discovered, that I was carless except my Turbo Buick sitting there; with Slicks, so away I went to the hardware store; in the Buick. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
I had to buy a larger tap drill and then I had tough time tapping the manifold. An all day affair for me.

What are you complaining about? If the hardware store was 1/2 mile away it would only take you less then 20 seconds to go there and back. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Sounds like a fun trip to the hardware store to me! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
bigblockquad 06-25-2004, 10:44 PM My LLY edge should be in the mail by the end of the month. Where should I locate the pyro probe? Driver side or passenger? Should I take off the manifold before I drill it ie, metal drill shavings staying in the manifold.
BTW I've been hearing alot of people talking about the overhead mount. Can someone PLEASE provide a pic of this setup installed.
Thanks in advance
Rich.

bigblockquad 06-26-2004, 10:46 AM Thanks for the info Mac. When I do it I'll print that up and use it as a guide. I'd still like to see one installed in the overhead console. Know where I can find pictures of this.
Thanks
Rich.
HossKartrite 06-26-2004, 02:14 PM Rich, there is a couple pics in this thread

bigblockquad 06-26-2004, 06:07 PM Thanks Hoss, that seems like a great place to mount the controller but how bad is the viewing angle? Can you see it while on the go or do you have to move around to see the readings.
Rich.
