Well although i said amonth ago in a topic about speakers that i didnt want to upgrade my radio i might just have to... Ive finally had it w/my radio semi dropping stations and it again has stop recognizing i put a cd in it and wont give it back to me...
Soooooooooo, i thought of just going w/a cheap Pioneer or somethin in it. But i HATE how there will be a space w/the smaller sized radio, along w/how ontop of the 80 bucks for the radio its another 80 bucks for the adapter so the chimes will work:badidea: . But anyways are there any aftermarket ones that do fill up the whole space?
Secondly, i like the way the factory radio will give the band and song thats playing on many stations... Can you get aftermarket ones w/this feature?
Odds are that il prolly end up w/another stocker but always a chance i guess..
No sense trying to persuade me into some super stero system or nav either, as its not gonna happen.... Not worth it to me to spend big bucks on it...

Its called RDS, Radio Data System. Some aftermarket systems do still use this system.

As long as Polarbear is asking about features for aftermarket radios I will add one question.
Are there any aftermarket radios that support the speed controlled volume?
I'm not trying to hijack, I just know that some of us love that feature.

the radio size you are looking for would be called a double din i believe. but from what ive seen these get pretty expensive since most have a ton of features. i have a smaller then stock size radio but the mounting bracket i got came with a pocket in it, so i have a pocket under my radio making it look pretty factory. got it from best buy, just another option for you

i had to get the speical harness to retain the chimes. i ended up cutting out the chime because it was so annoying and so loud even after i redid the wiring like the instructions said. just another thing to look at. maybe you can score a stock system from a member that just put in a big stereo or ebay?

not that I know of...
FWIW, I never really use the speed compensated volume...but thats cause I dont really like it. With the Bose luxury amps, it uses a small microphone to detect ambient noise in the cabin and adjust the sound accordingly. I wouldnt mind it if it ONLY adjusted the volume, but it also screws around with bass and trebel settings to make it sound good according to ambient/road noise....that frustrates me so I never really use it.

Something else to think about...A lot of the radio stations around here are going to HD which gives them more bandwidth to do more programming options.

Thanks Ben. The non-bose, 01-02 radios only control the complaint volume from the wife

Pioneer used to make a head unit with that feature a few years back. I believe it was their flagship model, so if you find a good used one its not gonna be cheap.
