: High HP other brand and Switched to a D-max
turbo lcc 06-15-2004, 09:27 AM Have any of you guys switched to a D-max from either a higher HP Dodge or Ford? If so how do you like the D-max and what upgrades did you have todo to make it satisfactory. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif and what upgrades did you have to your prior truck?
king d 06-16-2004, 06:24 PM i had an o1 dodge with a b1, suncoast tranny ,quadzilla 200 hp injects and nos, with a quad 215 sun tranny and alot less nos on the dmax it has much more power.now that i have the tts extreme and a whole lot more nos it aint even close........
2MuchFun 06-16-2004, 06:38 PM I had a 03 6.0L PSD.
Honestly, when I went to the Chevy Dmax, I was so impressed with the truck that I didnt feel any 'loss'. I would say the 6.0L accelerated from a dead stop better, but Im not into light-to-light performance anyway so I wasnt sad.
Now the Dmax with Juice/Attitude is amazing!
Had a 565hp Dodge 6 spd. Good structural integrity, with lots of inherent flaws. By the time you get all the flaws worked out, it's time to trade. Real happy with this one, and it'll have about the same build and power, but no shifting http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif I'm back to GM for keeps...T
dpower 06-16-2004, 08:56 PM Had a wicked 03 dodge, 520 @ the wheels...good motor, other parts of the truck questionable. Blew apart two motors, one my fault...one not. Extremely happy with the d-max, absolute blast to drive.
Crawler 06-17-2004, 03:12 AM 640RWHP On a 99 Dodge
The Chevy Is a more refined truck but not any tougher than the Dodge.
I haven't had the time or money to get my chevy up to par but I will.
The Dodge has 330,000 miles and when I switched from o-rings to fire rings the cylinder walls still looked great (315,000 miles).
Broken Parts on Dodge
1-Transmission (5-Speed) 298,000
1-Clutch (Aftermarket) Ripped The Center out on a powershift(My fault)
3-Lift Pumps (Finally built my own fuel system from tank forward)
1-Vacuum Pump Seal 275,000
2-VP44's (Followng lift pumps) Early VP44s weren't the best (Both died while truck was stock)
The Dodge Was a 99 3500 EX-Cab 5-Speed
SM Diesel Twin Turbo System
EDM Injectors
Edge Products Drag Comp
Scotty Air II Intake System
5" Exhaust (funtional because big turbo in twins has 5" outlet)
South Bend Clutch
Fire Rings and Head Studs
Fuel System
BD-Power BOV (Just for the heck of it-no horsepower increase just helps turbos to stay spooled during shifts)
Thats all I can think of thats performance oriented.
I'll edit later if I come up with more.
Z71 Grizzly 06-17-2004, 05:35 PM Aren't the Dodge lift pumps known for going out all the time around them years. And I know the Cummins is a really good strong motor, but the Duramax hasn'st been out as long as the Mighty Cummins has so who knows it's trailing fast.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif
Dmax Tim 06-18-2004, 08:47 AM I still have my 525hp Cummins sitting in the driveway.
Hired Gun 06-18-2004, 09:24 AM I owned a 99 dodge. Very happy at first. Then I added dd 3's edge ez, tst pm3 scotty II. I went to virginia, and dynoed on David Dunbars dyno at 373.6 I was so let down. Spent thousands, and felt like I just ate crap with a smile. Come home. Lift pump 5 failed. VP 44 3 failed, clutch exploded, leaked 2 quarts of oil a day, and the brakes had been replaced 12 times.
Solution: Trade
Duramax. Added an Edge with Attitude. 800.00 or so, and went to Cozzilino or something of the such in Indiana back in Feb. I dynoed at 360 hp. Simple plug in and I almost matched the Dodge. Still have a smile from ear to ear.
Just bought an Afe Stage II last night. Hope to add stacks next week. HEHEHEHE I love my Truck. Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy I say!
turbospl311 06-18-2004, 12:53 PM For me it's no comparison. My old 97 dodge rode rough but pulled great. the new Dmax rides nice and pulls great. The dodge was at 892 lbs torque and the chevy just did 865 torque. the Dodge ran 13.9 adn teh chevy is at about 14.0 so thats close.
I had done the tranny in the Dodge with ATS pieces and will probably end up doing the same for Ally if I keep going on this truck.
Overall the chevy is much easier to drive and my wife likes it better. That's good enough for me! :)
Plus the Chevy has 4 doors and the dodge only had 2. the Dodge is still around as my best friend bought it and is using it as his Shop Truck for his import speed business. Now the kids that work for him practically argue over who gets to run errands now when before htey ahted the old Nissan they had.
Mike L. 06-18-2004, 03:31 PM I had an '01 Excursion psd with a TTS race program. Thought I was happy till I started working on all these Duramaxes and seeing what you guys have done with them. Then one day Steve Cole had me do some work on the TTS race truck and it was over. I had me a Duramax within a couple of weeks and never looked back. I love this truck. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
