: Tank switch

My tank switch quit working (the valve itself, not the switch on the dash)and I am trying to get another one. I went to the junkyard but all the trucks they have have the valve mounted a bit different than on my truck and I can't get a good look to see if it really is the same switch (which is why I am posting this). The trucks they have are all gas, and the same year as mine.

Anybody know if the gasoline switch is the same as the diesel one? I don't care if it mounts different, all I care about is that the lines hook up properly and the wiring is the same.

Thanks! :)

I'm interested as well. I am planning on using this:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2005712/c-10614/Nty-1/p-2005712/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10614/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=fuel+tank+switch

but then I'm adding a tank to a truck that didn't have one stock, and putting the second one in my toolbox.

I wonder if running veggie oil in the truck is hard on that part of the fuel system. I live too far north to run biodiesel or veggie oil year round without some serious mods but I am seriously considering going that route for the warmer months of the year. Just curious if you think it could have anything to do with it. Of course if you're able to run the stuff year round the fuel savings would far outweigh the cost of a tank switch and some fuel line.

no i dont think it contributes to the wear, beacuse WVO has more lubricity

Well, I guess I'll be running on one tank only for a little while at least... $100.00 is pretty expensive and I haven't been running much veggie lately anyway. Thanks for the info!

Hard to tell whether the veggie contributed to the failure or not. The switch was very old to begin with and never did work quite right (always made a grinding noise and took a minute to do its thing when switching from the right tank to the left tank, but not when going from the left to the right). The veggie might have done it in, though... Hard to say. I suppose I could cut it open when I take it off and see what happened...

Those valve are motorised driven and there probleme is water infiltration ,rust.

Pull the rivet open it up remove the rust ,new grease too much will jam the gear in winter time,
reassemble everyting back togetter install screw, they are better than pop rivets and they will last longer.
Job done and $100 stay in your pocket;)

Yeah, I will try that later as well... I don't want to do it right now because I need my truck for the next day or so and I don't want to go messing up the fuel system.

Thanks tigman!
