Im sorta a Stereo geek and was upset to find out that when I pulled out my factory radio I come to find we have to use a 105 buck plug adapter to use a after market radio? Anyone have any another info on it? Thanks in advance!
Its a 04 Chevy Crew Cab Dmax 4x4.

If you don't ever want to return it to stock you can just trace the wires and make your own connection w/o that adapter (cutting of wires required). I did not remove my radio, so its hard to say which wire goes where, but it should not be a big problem to find out if you do a little research. What kind of system you want to install?

Had my stereo redone too. Was told had to leave stock deck in truck somewhere as it is tied into the security somehow. Cost me about $100CND to run extra cable. Now stock deck is installed behind the back seat where no-one can see it, and the aftermarket is where it should be. I dunno if this is what the adapter is for that graphicdisorder is talking about or if this is something else.

I ended up ordering it from Crutchfield.com today for 79.99. I could trace the wires im sure, but id rather just be able to unplug it if I ever trade the truck.

I just went through the same ordeal with purchasing a aftermarket stereo for my Sirius system. What I was told from the service tech (the best in town) is that the factory BOSE system is tied in the RDS system, Onstar, security, door chimes, and unconfirmed report of airbag system discharging prematurly because of aftermarket stereo.(couldn't confirm that one)
What you need is a GM Onstar class II data bus interface GMOS-02 which fits the 2003/04 GM trucks with BOSE stereo. This allows you to keep the above mention systems funtioning and keeps the security system on your PCM happy. It's made by Metra Corp and available at www.metraonline.com (http://www.metraonline.com) I picked it up locally and haven't checked web site prices.
But I need a HUGE favour. Do you have the wiring color codes for the speakers in the doors? I haven't gotten my manual yet and want to replace my factory speakers.

Ya thats what I ended up getting, only mine was for the none bose/onstar system, I didn't get those options on my truck as I will also be replacing the speakers and I sure dont need yet another cell phone (basically what onstar is). HAHA.
Anyway, I will shortly be replacing my door speakers as well, and when I do ill let you know what I find out!

So do you need the connector or not? According to the Crutchfield website the connector is just to keep the door chime. If that is the only thing that it is there for, I certainly won't get it. Thanks for the help.

Yes you have to get it unless you want to cut wires. The door chime wouldnt' bother me, but id just rather not have to cut any wires.

I installed my stereo last week, 7 in monitor with DVD Player. I don't have the Bose system and don't care about on star so I used the 7 dollar plug from Wal-Mart. Everything works great and I still have the door chime.

Well then maybe I am wrong? I went to 3 audio shops and they all had the same answer.... including crutchfield making that 4 sources all saying I needed that plug. Oh well, its only money i guess.

I have neither the Bose system nor On-Star, I replaced the stock stereo from new so I didn't bother with paying more money just to remove it right away. On-Star won't help me off road so that was out too.
As for the wiring colors, unfortunately you're out of luck X2 asking me. First off, I had the stereo dealer do the install and I wasn't around when he did it, and second, I'm color blind to boot, so even if I did see the install, I still couldn't tell you what the colors are. Hopefully someone else here can tell you. My apologies!
