http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Thought I'd join the club myself!, 3 days ago I bought a new '04 Chev. Duramax 2500HD/Alli CC SB 4x4, I got the XM radio and the Bose system. This is my early father's day present from the wife and kids, and I really like this truck! The one problem I have is I can't keep my foot out of it!! I am really trying to break it in right, but ya'll know how it is.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Can anyone tell me where the engine build date is in relation to GM's injector problem?? I'm not going to freak out or anything as I've been through all of this b4 when I bought my '03 Ford 6.0 (Jan 20 engine build date), and everyone said not to buy it, but I never had any problem at all with it.(except that it sure didnt like high altitude 10,000ft.) on a cold start, but other than that, ran excellent!

And thats the same attitude with this one, I'm having more fun all the time driving this truck! The allison is really cool, except I wish it would stay a little longer in 2nd on acceleration. And thats another thing, push the pedal just a little, and the truck takes right off quick, but floor it and it fools around for a couple of seconds then starts to take off., is this normal, or will improve when broken in a little?

Anyway, I'm happy to be here, I've seen lots of information here, which was very helpful toward my purchase.

Ya'll have a great week!

When was your truck built? Mine was on hold for the injector problem, I think it was trucks built around the first or second week of april. I really dont think anyone should have problems with injectors because all of these trucks were put on hold so that GM could run a test on them. Anyways, congratulations on trading that ford in for a chevy.

Thank you, 3500LLY !

According to the driver's door sticker, on the top right-hand corner, it reads 04/04. I am assuming this is both the engine and truck build date? I am planning on buying a fuel filter system, I see a couple of brands out there that look ok, well see.

The duramax is built by isuzu somewhere in Ohio...All GM HDs are then assembled in Flint Michigan. I know mine was assembled sometime in early april not sure when the engine would have actually been built...Not long before that I'm sure. I got about 600 miles on it so far and its running great.

The Duramax plant is in Moraine, Ohio. Only the Crew Cab trucks are assembled in Flint, the Extended Cabs and Regular Cabs get put together in Pontiac...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif Edited by: Zeeb

didnt realize those were built in Pontiac...1/2 tons are at the oshawa plants, they build those at other plants too? I'd assume that once an engine roles of the line at the duramax plant it is shipped imediately to Michigan...So if these problems occured around late march early april all of those engines should have been assembled together???

Oh and since i see that you drive a GMC, do you know the real reason why they still produce both of these trucks...I think they role off of the same assembly line is that true also? Ive heard that GMC helps GM reach different areas of the market and I know that GMC's have different standard features with different packages. Are these the only reaons?

Can't tell you about where GM builds other stuff. Only reason I know about the HD's and Pontiac is because that's where mine came from...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

As far as I know, all the Dmax's go by rail from Ohio to Michigan, and so I would suspect that any kind of problem affecting Flint would also affect Pontiac. That's what made me wonder about the hold in Flint. Elsewhere here there were posts that the hold may have been for an Allison problem. Hard to say, since maybe 1600 engines represent one shipment from Moraine to Flint? IIRC, 1600 was the number mentioned in relation to the hold.

Why they build GMCs? Don't know that for sure either, but based on my experience as a GMC salesman a number of years ago, I can repeat some of the stuff we used to be told.

Yes they appeal to a different market segment and have for years. Even when the equipment packages weren't so different than they are now, GMC dealers tended to order more optional stuff for a clientele that used them more for second cars than trucks. Since that was the case, GMCs would book for a higher value than similar Chevys in the used car market. Generally, used GMCs had fewer miles per year and more equipment as well as being cleaner.

And yes, they roll off the same line. We used to occasionally have one come in with something like a Chev tailgate, or Silverado markings on the interiors, etc.
