its really a matter of preference. as vader said, do a search and you will find more than you care to read. they both work well and basically have different options, elements, and mounting locations.

as had been said before, search the forum. I did my own from scratch. Used a WIX filter head, Baldwin BF7633 filter and mounted on the spare alternator posistion with a home made bracket. I plumbed it pre-OEM.

It took a lot of research and I think all the available kits here are well thought out but the deciding factor for me was simply the application. The Racor fit what I wanted. I'm not as mechanically inclined as some of the guys here but felt comfortable doing this install. I purchased it from Greg(http://www.lubespecialist.com) and mounted it in the 2'nd alt. position. Made a bracket from some metal I had laying around and used some ideas from some of the various installations I've seen here. The Racor has a heated fuel bowl, factory tie in WIF sensor, and a slick wiring harness with easy to understand instructions. Greg's a great guy to deal with, I'd purchase again from him. Again it's what works for you, and what your expectations are from the filters ie ease of install, fuel cleanliness, location of install etc...

The deciding factor for me was my SM.

Some dealers are great to work with on such things, others can be difficult about mods. The Racor kit from Racor, was developed in conjunction with GM. The product bulletin even refers you to a GMC dealer or Racor distributor for assistance. I got my SM's approval for the install after showing him that bulletin. There has been information going around about the Racor being GM approved since they had a lot to say about it's development, but there's nothing I've seen in print documenting the validity of that rumor.

Greg's kit uses most of the same components, and when frame mounted, closely mirrors the Racor kit but there are differences. Greg's kit is also less money.

It's also pre-OEM which eliminates the possibility of being denied warranty work due to you having modified the engine's fuel system.

There are lots of things to consider when trying to pick one, including the opinions of others who have selected one or the other. As others have said above, you need to do your own research and pick a solution that seems to work best for you, and that you are most comfortable with.

Get out your reading glasses, there's lots here on the subject...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif Edited by: Zeeb
