: Vortex cone by Dynatech
swilk 06-14-2004, 11:29 AM Has anyone seen these ... or better yet, has anyone actually used them? I do not see any application especially for a diesel truck, but they have sizes ranging up to 4.5" and claim to have little or no backpressure. I am wondering if this would be an easy way to eliminate the drone sound people complain about from their aftermarket exhaust while not raising EGT's.

Dmax Tim 06-14-2004, 12:47 PM One on the intake and one on the tail pipe should add 50hp atleast and if u put 2 stickers on, it should increase to 75hp http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
I think u should get one before P'nut does and let us know how it does.

Did you read the product information before you wrote that? No where does it state any kind of power increases, its sole function is a resonator designed to restrict exhaust db while not increasing backpressure.
I asked the question if anyone had seen or used one ... and wondered if it might help those with an exhaust drone problem.

McRat 06-14-2004, 01:18 PM It might work. The purpose of those is for open header dragcars when they race at a track that has noise restrictions.
Dmax Tim 06-14-2004, 01:31 PM Yes, I read it, it seems like some of the tornado and other vortex things that show up.
I thought others would get a laugh, hence the http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
It may make a good smoke defuser.
GMC2500HD 06-14-2004, 01:36 PM If it is going to reduce sound then there is a dampening effect going on hence the increase in back pressure. When you dampen sound you create a sheild per say to trap it and in the process you will also catch exhaust gasses trying to excape and thus increase the back pressure. I think you would see a decrease in HP unless you added 4 sticker....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
swilk 06-14-2004, 01:40 PM I though you might be poking fun at me directly. Anyway, the product looks interesting .... Im not 100% convinced of the no backpressure added stuff though. Anyway, I might rder one just to play with. My exhaust is not bad at all ... but there is a little more noise than I would like under load.
I do not care about a slight loss of power .... but, Im not going to use one of these if it increases EGT's when the whole purpose of a bigger exhaust system is to lower EGT's.
Dmax Tim 06-14-2004, 01:46 PM No fun at U, just the device.
Can't u tell I'm bored and still got an hour to go http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
BTW P'nut is the sticker whore w/ the fast truck.Edited by: Dmax Tim
swilk 06-14-2004, 01:50 PM Back before the wife, kid, mortgage, ect, ect ... I used to be VERY heavy into street (and some strip) racing ( not trucks). I used to get a kick out of the guys with their rear qtr windows covered in the summit, jegs, edelbrock .... They had every sticker known to man and still got their ass moped. I think the added weight and the extra wind drag of the stickers just slows ya down. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Edited by: swilk
emerick115 06-14-2004, 04:27 PM DO NOT BUY THIS, it doesnt work. When I had the ATS 4 inch system on my 01 dmax, it was wicked loud in the cab. They gave me other mufflers to try as well but still real drony. So I bought that cone thingy hoping to get good results. Put it in there and wouldn't of known it was in there if I didnt do it.

Chilly 06-15-2004, 07:53 AM I bought a set of these for my nova to try and kill some of the sound. Due to limited space I'm running a 3.5" bullet muffler and its real loud on the street. I noticed no difference with them in compared to not having them. Just glad they didn't cost too much.
