Thanks for reading this guys. I really need some help if you can.

I own a 97 F350 Banks 7.3. 4X4. It has 456 gears, 35" tires, Trans commander shift chip, and an eng power chip, a Mag-Hytec 6 gal trans pan and one external after market cooler.

My concerns are as follows. I live in Big Bear lake Ca. When I come home from a trip I have to pull my 12K 5th wheel up a 45 to 55 minute grade to about 8000 feet every time. My temps at the pan have gotten as high as 260 degrees.

On the highway at 60 mph it never gets above 150. No matter what. It can be 120 out side and it stays right at 145 to 150.

It's just this dang hill I have to climb when I am coming home.

My current trans cooler is about a 10 by 12 radiator painted black. I bought a new one that is about 12 x 16 and its raw. No paint. Several people have said to just run it inline with the other one. Some say to run them inline and some say run them parallell with a splitter in the out from the trans? Any one have any suggestions for me?

Thanks abunch guys!

This seems high to me. I have my temp gauge in the pressure line "hot line" before it gets to the stock cooler, and even while pulling my loaded 3 horse gooseneck trailer, my temp has not been over 230. Granted, i do not pull up the grades you mention, but 260 at the pan seems excessive to me.

All the info that i have seen says if you install another cooler, leave you existing cooler in place. Here is a link to a cooler i have been thinking about.

For the most reduction in heat, put them in series. I would also move to synthetic transmission fluid ASAP! It will handle the heat better and give you more margin when you get hot before the fluid cooks. You might also add a fan that comes on with a temp controller or a switch if you want to control it manually. This will allow you to not over cool. I agree that 260 is a bit toasty. Are you sure you are not slipping? I would want to stay below 220 and 200 or less would be ideal.
