i just recently bought a 97 6.5 tdi truck...and love it...

the truck has 184k miles and is an automatic...the previous owner knew very little, or least it seemed, about automobiles...there were lots of service receipts, but nothing unusual (except a replaced t-case).

i'm getting 14 mpg, which i do not love...why?:help:

the truck blew a little black smoke, i replaced the clogged air filter and that stopped...i checked the wastegate solinoid, seems to work...my pmd (think those are the right initials) is remote located with a cooler on it...

the pmd was replaced (i assume it has), is there significant adjustment (if any) to be made on it.

otherwise, any thoughts on why the low milage?

i searched on the topic(s) but still feel in the dark; also read the FAQs...i have a basic understanding of what everything does, but this is my first chevy and i need a hand...

also, why would my ABS light be on?...i checked the fuse:D ...oh, the ABS is NOT WORKING as well (its raining today)

thanks a lot

its a 2500 and i think i figured out the issue

the fuel filter was black and nasty...

anyhow, heading on a 6hr trip in 45min, guess we'll see if that was the issue

btw, no records on any fuel system maintainence.

thanks

Hello, You can post your VIN # in another section of this site for vin check requests. You will get a report of everything that has been done to it at the GM dealers from day one, might come in handy for reference.

Check for injector reciepts. If they havent been done, then:grd: and fast. I replaced mine last week, and I am getting 2MPG better in town already. The tips of three were directionally blocked somehow. Trucks runs much better now, and I have more power to boot. Running some additives would not hurt either to limp those along a little longer.

thanks for the advice

the fuel filter yeilded 2mpg better over what i had...

i'll try an additive i suppose, injectors are a little off budget right now (i'm in the middle of renovating my house and getting married:eek: )

any thoughts on the ABS...like i said, im new to chevys and the hydroboost system...could those components be related in an issue?...

thanks...oh yeah, im going to do some searching too):h
