I have a 01 duramax and the injectors were replace 7 months ago at 69,000 miles. When the injectors are replaced, are the heads removed? If so....what are my chances at getting a warrenty claim on a leaking head gasket after 7 months and 7Kmiles ?

:exactly:

The blown head gasket should be covered under the 100,000 mile warranty.

Even if your under 100,000 you may be over the 5 yrs time line. Mine expired july 06. good luck!

Leaking head gaskets are common on 01's.

Lobby hard that it was an existing problem that they missed when they did the injectors.

My luck held out. Turned out to be a cooling line for the Turbo. It is leaking all down the front and right side of engine. Dealer want 90 mins + parts = 230 bucks. I ordered the $16.00 hose and will spend a hour or so repairing it.
Got Luck?

Ive seen the injector sleeves leak after they replace the injectors. Sometimes the sleeves come out with the injectors.

if the heads are not removed, why does it cost so much to replace the injectors?

TO THE MAX!,
I assume it's mostly labor costs, but I am also curious as to what actually must be removed to get at the injectors? Luke

I've had the valve covers off mine and it is a big job. There's lots of stuff to move out of the way. I think GM pays 8hr to do the job and after doing a few you will make time if things go well but still, you won't be sitting on your arse to do the job in 8. I think the injectors were about $350 to $400 ea. Times 8 thats a few bucks too.

At least on LB7s, you're about no more than an hour away from pulling the heads if you've got it down to where you can pull the injectors out. I've done head studs and I can say it was one long job, so much stuff has to come off the top of the motor that we kept a running list to make sure we had it all correct.

interesting... so its mostly just removal of the stuff that is on top of the engine???

Nooooo. Injectors are $300-450 for a set of eight

EDIT: You were a lot closer to right on price than I was. I was basing my nuimbers on 6.5L injectors. Looks like Dmax injectors are $250 to $400+ EACH! That's ridiculous.

Yup. There's a lof of parts that have to come out to free the injector lines. Once you get those out, then the upper and lower valve covers. Then, the complete rocker assemblies. Then, the injector return lines come out, at which point you can start on the injectors.

I'm taking a WAG that the time we took to remove the bolts and install the studs would be about the same to R&R the injectors.

My buddy is an experienced GM mechanic and we figure we had about 40 hours in it total. He called GM tech support and said they have heard of people doing it in 20 hours, but the "average" is more like 40.

We were being REALLY anal about keeping everything spotlessly clean, and that's what made us so slow. But, we have zero leaks and everything is holding great.

If we did it again, it would probably be a start-Friday-night and end-Sunday kind of thing, two of us working continuously.

Big job. Kinda scary when your pile of removed parts is so big.

When the dealer did my injectors the truck was in the shop at 2:00pm, diagnosed at 2:30, coffee break till 3:00 and then the tech started on the tear down. I picked the truck up the next day at 3:00. Even included an oil change. The tech said two of the injector cups came out of the head and he had to seal them up again. All in all, very happy with the service. About 15k since and no problems.

The GMC dealer took three days to replace all 8, and that was with a prescheduled appt. They knew all 8 were going to be done. They billed GM something like 4K for whole deal (it also included an oil change)

Hard to believe that, unless they had multiple guys on the truck and worked some big overtime.

I saw all the parts that were replaced in a neat little pile on the bench. The guy was a dedicated diesel tech and he did admit to doing lots of injectors.
