2. What torque converter are guys running with the 700r4 trans and 3.42 gears?

A cross pipe is really not necessary. Bigger pipes will help quite a bit, though. In general, the bigger the pipe, the more power it will free up to a point...

I don't know the answer to your second question even though I used to have that setup.
