My rear brakes have always have squeaked in 1st gear and coming to a stop. Just today it got a lot worse if it is even the same thing. Now it is a very load low pitch screach of some kind and I also hear metal on metal somewhere. It just happened out of the blue and it sounds horrible but doesn't drive any different. I checked everything out the best I could while in park and couldn't see anything hanging or tied up to any visible moving parts. Any suggestions or words of wisdom to direct me in the right direction? Thanks guys.
I just went outside to drive it again and it almost sounds like something is dragging on the ground, but there isn't.

How about jacking the truck up and while in nuetral try an spin each wheel. I would also remove the wheels and compare the pad thickness as I supect you have a caliper not releasing as far as it should after braking.
Thanks Howie - that will be my next project I'm sure

Just an FYI, a buddy of mine is a service tech at a Chevy dealership. He was telling me he has seen quite a few times that the inner pads on the rear wheels have worn down to nothing when the outsides look brand new. Check both pads all around not just the outers. May be somthing like this.
Thanks i will check them out good

That means a sticking caliper. If thats the case, check how the caliper slides on the pins. If it sticks, polish it up some and the the pin bores.

And grease them.
Don't forget, LIGHTLY grease em! Trucks don't like to stop with greasy pads! Don't ask.

Look at the rotors mine, just delaminated last week in the rear, It looks like the rotor was resawn. I was driving and heard a rock in the wheel well sound and didn't think much of it. Right after that I got a shudder at stop . I looked at my front ABS sensors and replaced one. Went out for a test drive and blew a caliper out in the rear as it had to extend out on the delaminated rotor. There were just ribs on that rear rotor on the inside.
Im waiting on my rotors and pads for a complete brake job. I also will be doing a caliper in that rear. Here is a link for good rotors and brake pads. I went slotted and dimpled (not drilled ) , lifetime waranty, and not that costly.

Thats what I don't understand is I just took my brakes apart and changed the pins this summer. It has to be the problem though - damn things maybe its just time for all new parts
