: Got LB7, EDGE and 35" Tires? I have a few ?s for ya.
Gato Gordo 06-12-2004, 06:17 PM Hey Guys,
Does anyone here have this setup? The reason I ask is I just lifted my LLY and I'm really surprised by both the mileage and power decreases.
I used to get 16 mpg (on paper not DIC) and had torque for days. Now I get about 13 mpg and a very noticable decrease in torque.
I'm wondering if the Power and Torque generated by the Edge will overcome the loss from the bigger tires. Or should I start looking for some gears?
I plan on towing my 7,000 boat to Cabo from San Diego and I need all the torque I can get.
You feedback would be very appreciated.
thanks.
GG
Worrywart 06-12-2004, 07:37 PM Hey Gato,
I don't have your set up...yet. In anticipation of the (a) lift and larger tires, I got a non-attitude Juice w/ Autometer gauges. I haven't had the time to install them yet though...
I have not made my mind up as which lift to go with. Reading many posts here and in other forums has helped me narrow down my choices to ProComp, Superlift and CST.
How is your ProComp lift working out...happy with it? Any problems?
What made you pick this lift over others?
Gato Gordo 06-12-2004, 09:56 PM Hey Worry,
I'll be interested to hear how your system works out. I think I'm going to hold off on re-gearing until I can get the Edge. Sounds like any day now.
I didn't pick Pro-Comp, they picked me. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
I'm one of their vendors and I have a lot of good friends that work there. I was VERY well taken care of.
Happy with the lift so far. I have a lot of friends in the lift biz (RCD, Fabtech) and the consensus seems to be that the pro-comp offers the best ride, but it's not the tuffest. The RCD kit is supposed to be bomb proof, but can be a little hard on the front CV's.
Also, I've heard nothing but good stuff about the CST, Just too high for me.
My truck is too tall as it is. The pro-comp is a true 6" kit without cranking the torsions. The other kits need the torsions cranked to get the extra 1.5" from what I understand.
thanks for the feedback.
Worrywart 06-13-2004, 09:21 AM Gato,
The Juice is reeaally baaad maaan! Totally aaawsome...the best thing since they invented toilet paper...(please note - this is only required writting to maintain this thread legal in this forum...I've got the Juice, but I have not installed it yet. So I really don't know sheet about how it performs yet...)
Aahhh...the privileged
few...sounds like you're in the know and are well connected in the industry ;)
"...Pro-Comp offers the best ride, but it's not the tuffest."
Well, that comment helped me narrow my choices even further to just Superlift and CST.
I don't go off roading just for the fun of it, but when I have to go somewhere that it's way off any civilized road, I do have fun.
I've been through some washboard terrain that will almost literally pulverize any gall blader or kidney stones you may be afflicted with...so I do need tough components in the lift that I will finally go with.
Good luck and enjoy you Baja trip.
DEMAXALLIS 06-13-2004, 10:01 AM That's why I wished GM offered the 4.10's on the diesels as they do on the gassers. Wonder if it would be cost effective to swap out 4.10's out of a HD gasser from a salvage yard ?
Worrywart 06-13-2004, 01:35 PM DEMAXALLIS,
Hhhmmm...that's an interesting idea, I never thought about going that route.
However, I think I would feel kinda funny putting junkyard parts in my $40,000+ truck...
chaps 06-15-2004, 01:35 AM I wouldn't stress at all, with the juice you'll be more than fine. I was planning on re-gearing for my 40's but honestly with my six-gun I have loads more power than stock and really like the long gears. I had my stock wheels on a while back and hated how short the gears felt, it was always shifting. Keep your 3.73's, once your juiced you'll be http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I have the RCD 6” lift. I bought 35x14.5x16 Nitto tires on 16x10 Weld Cheyenne 8 rims. I also bought the Bushwhacker fender flares to help cover the extra width. My truck sat low to begin with, not having the plow prep package. After the lift I put the tires on and they stuck out beyond the new flares by at least an inch and were right up to the metal part of the bumper. I bought another set of 33x12.5x16 Nitto tires on 16x8 Weld Cheyenne 8 rims and they fit real nice! Anyone interested in the 35’s let me know! I have them on EBay right now for MUCH less than what I paid. The ride is great.
I am running the Quadzilla box on the 50 HP setting to correct the speedometer and remove the speed limiter. I have the Edge set to 5 and love the performance! I do run the Quad higher at the races, but I have the Sun Coast transmission to handle it. 13.5 in the quarter mile with a lifted truck is incredible.

Gato Gordo 06-17-2004, 07:21 PM You guys have convinced me.
I'm going to wait for the Edge. Sounds like it's any day now.
Thanks for all the feedback.

bigblockquad 06-20-2004, 02:24 PM I have the same setup as you except my lift is a 4 inch Ranch with adjustable shocks. I run 315-70-17's (35's if you do the math) and when I put them on my numbers went down on the DIC as well. I guess it's due to more rotating mass but one thing some people don't take into consideration is our tires are about 4-41/2 inches taller ie, you go farther per revolution. The DIC doesn't know this. Don't know how long you've had your truck but with mine, my mileage went from mid 15's to low 13's with lift. It's now been a week since my first oil change and I'm now in the mid 14's and I average 80 on the freeway. I too am waiting for my Edge. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
BTW, I went Rancho 4" to still get my truck in the garage (damn onstar antenna). Oh yeah I've played with the shocks alittle but the truck rides like a cadillac, way better than stock.
Rich.
Gato Gordo 06-20-2004, 02:44 PM Hey Rich,
I'm in the exact same boat as far as mileage
Your new tires throw the DIC off by 14%.
If you take what your Odometer reads x 1.14 / gallons you will get true MPG.
I went from almost 16mpg to almost 14mpg.
I also want my economy and power back.
Don't get me wrong, it's not gutless by any means. I just want my fire breathing torque monster back (and then some hopefully).
So I wait...
bigblockquad 06-20-2004, 02:59 PM GG,
I just figured mine out and with the DIC saying 14.4 X 1.14, I'm gett'n about 16.41mpg. I'm pretty easy on it though. I don't really mash it from the line. That's what the vette's for......http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif
How many miles on your truck. I've been told it keeps getting better to around 10k miles.
Anybody able to verify this?
Rich.
Gato Gordo 06-20-2004, 06:53 PM Hey Rich,
That's prolly not the best way to figure. The DIC is notorious for being 1-2 mpg high.
Take you Trip Counter mileage (I set my personal trip counter) for that tank and multiply by 1.14 then divide by the # of Gallons you pumped.
I think 14 is about right for someone who drives fast (me too).
The Edge should give us back the mileage we lost and then some.
Oh yeah, I have 5k miles. My Gas Chevys would always "wake up" between 5-10k miles. I don't know why, but they got better mileage and seemed to mhave more power.
Fingers crossed....
ghettosled 06-21-2004, 12:08 AM he CST is the best lift out there, and the RCD should be behind in second. The bilstein shocks used in the rcd are very good on the street, and the truck still corners quiet well.. I noticed only a very small decrease in gas milage with the RCD 6" and 35s. I had the edge box originally and it woke up the truck tremendously even with the factory 373 gears. Here is a pic. 6" RCD, 35" nitto terra grapplers on 20" wheels. The tires suck for traction in the rain/snow but are very quiet on the freeway at high speeds. notice we had to trim a decent amount from the front fender.
