: Warranty Work Question?

I just took my truck into the GMC dealership this week to see if they could find the source of the noise it was making. The service advisor proceedes to tell me that since it's a CHEVY and not a GMC, their dealership can't work on it, UNLESS it's a major driveability problem. He went on to say they only work on the Chevys they sell.

Is this an unwritten rule or did I miss something in the warranty booklet, or is the advisor FOS?

This service advisor is not the regular guy I normally see.

Don't feel bad. The local Chevy dealership has told me something similar. Nothing to be offended at. I am myself not sure why they do this, but they will change the oil, minor stuff like that but they did tell me should I need service that I need to take to a GMC dealership...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

It's pretty common. They'll do emergency warranty work on each other's brands, but it's a pain to get authorization and they won't do it if a branded dealer is anywhere close.

It can even be tough to get warranty work out of a dealer if you didn't buy it there, but from another dealer in the area. Technically, GM doesn't allow that, but you might run into "scheduling" problems.
