I have had my truck (2006 4x4 crew cab long bed) 4 days now. I am up to 250 miles, it had 100 on it when I purchased it. I am going to try and get as many miles on it as i can before going hunting in early Oct, when I will also tow my camper. Did you wait for the DIC (nice marketing name) to tell you when to change your oil the first time or did you do an early change during the break in process. If I get 500 to 1000 miles on it before I start my first tow, then put another 1500miles on it while hunting, does it sound reasonable to wait untill I get back and it has 2500 miles on it before I do my first oil change? Its my first diesel and I do not want to hurt anything this early!

25% of oil change,or at 7500 miles,same with 2nd one and will be the same with the 3rd....I'am at 40% now,and will be doin' my allison filter this time as well-nelson out-

I did my first change at 4,500 miles and the DIC said I still had 55% oil life remaining. Waiting until 2,500 or even later will be fine. I'm changing mine now every 7,500 miles or so. Remember, the Duramax oil capacity is twice that of a normal car. More oil means more time between changes.

Changed mine at 500 miles. This question is kind of like discussing politics, your going to get alot of passionate thoughts both for and against early changes.

500 Miles the first time and again at 5500 miles ( only did it to compare oil before/after blocker plate install)

I did my first at 3000 and every 5000 after that. Ohh, and I use 15-40 HD Rotella and Mobil 1 filter.

First engine oil change/lube at 1,669 miles. I changed the oils/fluids of the front axle, transfer case, transmission/filter, and rear end just before 5,000 miles.

Went 1000 miles on the orig oil now every 7000......Mobil1 truck oil..........

First one at 500 miles, then every 5000 after that.

1st one @ 1k miles then 3k after that 'til 10k total miles.
Plan to switch to full synthetc @ 10k and change every 7500-10000 miles there after.

I did my first major maintenance at 4,322 miles.
