06 LBZ Dually going into the stealer tomorrow for what appears to be a tow/haul engage/disengage problem. The symptom is you have to push the bottom on the end of the shift lever many, many times to get it to engage and again to disengage. I see no pattern to when it activated or deactivates, just random. When it does engage everything seems to work normal. The easiest way to disengage it is to turn the engine off. Anyone know what is going on? I always like to know, if possible, before going to the stealer what really needs to be done, to avoid the BS. Thanks

sounds like the button on the shifter if not engaging the mechanism for the tow/haul and if it does, its intermidiate. they should replace that switch or maybe the shifter? let us know!!

A little update on my Tow/Haul mode shift problem. First I have proven to myself several times that the problem is temperature sensitive. When I try the mode change with the engine/transmission cold (not run for at least 4 hours) the mode change works every time. Now take the truck out and run it, get the engine and transmission up to operating temperature, and the problem is solid. I think the switch simply sends a signal to the TCM which then controls the transmission in a different mode. I do not believe that there are actual mechanical devices involved, except for the switch. If my understanding is correct, it would appear to be the switch, a loose connector, or a TCM problem. If the TCM hopefully there is a new flash update available. I will know soon enough as it goes to the Stealer 8:00 AM on Wednesday. Will post the resolution.
