I have an 04 LB7 with about 70K miles. Never noticed it burning any oil for the 1st 50K. Now it is always at least 2qts low at oil change for the last 20K. I always change it around 5K and driving habits have not changed. Any ideas what is causing this? Does not seem to matter whether I am pulling much or not.

Have you changed to a different brand of oil ? So oils disappear between oil changes much more then other oils and not because you are burning it either.

Did ya change the Air Filter at all recently? The only time my truck burned any oil.....I mean any oil at all.....My afe was getting pretty plugged....waiting for the time to go to the speed shop and buy a new AFE cleaning kit it went through 2 quarts. I think even when oil just touches the bottom of the dipstick its still only 1 qt low. But changed the air filter I assume causing some blow-by. Still doesnt burn a drop of oil between 7,000 mile oil changes...and I hit 119,000 today.

Have you ruled out all posibilities of a leak? Even an oil filter thats a bit loose will seep a qt on an oil change.

All diesels use some oil, it's the nature of the beast. Mine uses oil only when driven like a scalded dog towing.

And towing doesn't always mean constant oil use, I used over a qt going to SD on vacation and not a drop coming home. Go figure!

Different oils will disappear at different rates. Mine uses no oil between changes when on its steady diet of Rotella Synthetic. However, a couple of oil changes ago I switched to Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w-40, and lost 2 quarts in 7500 miles.

Went back to Rotella Syn, and back to no oil use. I guess it might have been a slight leak, but I noticed no oil anywhere outside the engine.
