Local shop said he can install 4" stainless steel with
Magnaflow muffler for $500. I use the truck for towing 35' fifth wheel that is 10,000 lb. I was told the exhaust is a waste of money. I called hypertech to see if I need the exhaust. He told me no. I run on level 2 for towing. What do you guy's notice with the 4" exhaust and is it worth the money?

You don't have a cat, so cut out off the stock muffler and put in straight piped or a hipo muffler, you'll see quicker spool up and more exhaust volume moving out which provides more boost- get a gauge- there's lots to do from there. I run on level 3, a pyro would be a good idea also. Do this with stock 3.5 pipes less than 300$, or spend the 5 bills?

It's fun to own a dmax.

VW23,

I posted this elsewhere but it applies here too:

The guys are right, while you do get some HP (15-20) with an exhaust the main reason is to lower EGTs and to get the turbo to spool up faster. That way you can use all the electronic HP that you get with a Programmer or Module and still have safe EGT's overall!

While doing a "will fit" muffler alone helps you don't get the mandrel bending and larger diameter pipe size benefits to increase the CFM as much as you will with a cat back that is designed for the truck and bolts on. Plus we have 4 inch mandrel bent cat back systems as low as 239.99. These will take you an hour or so to install and are a direct bolt on deal.
