: Who Uses Stanadynes Performance Formula?
Max Owner 06-10-2004, 06:44 PM Hey all. I'm lookin to find out how much additive you guys add to a 25 gal tank (I think) on a shortbox?
I did a quick compute acordin to the jug, and I came up with about 6.6oz.
Any thoughts?
lave80 06-10-2004, 06:46 PM well on my bottles there is hash marks for 30 gallons and 60 gallons. so when ever i fill up i always put the 30 gallons in. that is if i am empty though.
patrick
DavesDmax 06-10-2004, 06:47 PM Add per bottle recomendations. That's all I do.
2MuchFun 06-10-2004, 06:50 PM Ya, its a bit of a pain, but I take the tank low enough to add 30 gallons of fuel and half a bottle of additive.
VeryOldDog 06-10-2004, 07:40 PM I have been using Performance Plus since I purchased the vehicle. I try to add the correct amount by simply guestimating the volume by the hash marks on the bottle. I was wondering if anyone else using the additive has had good service using the product or if they had injector problems? Please speak up.
Max Owner 06-10-2004, 07:46 PM Hey guys. It really doesn't say how much to use. Went and got the jug out of truck.... 64 oz treats 240 gal. Well.... just did some more computin' and see that I should be using 8oz per 30 gal. Boy, am I good!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gif
Another disaster nearly averted.
I bought a case of half gal jugs. I think they are more big rig friendly, than little rig friendly.
Thanx guys.
BRUCE 06-10-2004, 09:19 PM I use the same system as very old dog, this is not ROCKET SURGERY, heh hehhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif. been useing it since truck is new, now 10000 miles runs real nice.
Norskeole 06-10-2004, 09:24 PM I purchase the small 8 oz bottles from:
http://www.scheiddiesel.com/stanadyne.htm
May go to the the pint size and use 1/2 each time I fuel up. With the long box - larger fuel tank - adding 8 oz during each fueling adds the "correct" amount. Adding more than what is needed should not hurt.

Max Owner 06-10-2004, 10:32 PM From the info on the jug, it doesn't give enough info. Broke out the calculator, and did some division. Same thing with the Diesel Kleene I was using. No real info on smaller tanks.
Fred G 06-10-2004, 11:35 PM My stanadyne bottle is marked every 15 gallons. Typically added the 15-gal amount when refilling my 26-gal factory tank. Now that I have a 45-gal transferflow I put in the 30-gal marking (half the bottle) and my fillup is usually around 31-32 gallons. I refill the small bottle from the larger jug that I purchase every couple of months.
Been using Stanadyne since last summer when they announced it as approved, at about 8K miles. Now at 30K and running strong.
Dabbled with FPPF last winter but lost more MPG and had a rough idle. Switched back to Stanadyne and my idle and MPG went back to normal.
2MuchFun 06-11-2004, 12:49 AM Well, Im only at 7xxx miles so I cant tell... I hope it works!
I suggest you get a little container, maybe a old pepsi bottle?, and mark it at 8oz. and just use that for fill ups..
Max Owner 06-11-2004, 11:17 AM I got a spiffy funnel, that has the amounts marked on the side of it.
Thanx for the replies all.
Sean.
Ace_of_Chaos 06-11-2004, 02:16 PM I just guesstimate (using the marks on the bottle) about a third of a pint at each fill-up ( usually 20 gallons or more ). I've been using it since truck was new, now at over 16,000 miles. No problems. Planning on changing filter every 10k miles. No secondary filter, yet.
Man, that stuff stinks !!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif
Does anybody use the Stanadyne Performance Junior ? I was just wondering. It looks quite a bit cheaper, and may work well here in the South.
Also, does anybody have a good online source for Stanadyne products ?Edited by: Ace_of_Chaos
BigdaddyG 06-13-2004, 01:33 AM Been trying different additives and am going to purchase some Stanadyne. Just bought a funnel that has a small hose on the bottom and an on/off valve at the bottom of the funnel. It also has a cap on the end of the small clear tube off the bottom. Funnel is marked for amounts of fluid up to 1qt as I recall. The cool thing besides the on/off valve is the snap on lid for the top of the funnel. So no drips or spilling top or bottom and no dirt or wiping the funnel out. Picked it up at Wal-Mart for 4 or 5 bucks.
John R 06-13-2004, 10:26 AM I use these to measure out my additive.

I have that same type funnel, got mine at ADVANCED AUTO ARTS.First time I used it I managed to pour the additive right thru the funnel and on the cement. Didn't have the in line valve fully closed. Other than that incident I reall like the funnel.
BLACKDMAX 06-13-2004, 07:45 PM You can also buy the preformance formula in a "One Shot" that is perfect for carring with you in the truck. I usually carry a few with me. It makes it much easier than always carrying a bigger bottle and a funnel.

letsgo 06-13-2004, 09:36 PM Some of the fuel additives will dissolve plastic containers not designed for the purpose described above.
Also do not mix two different additives together as they will solidify (been there done that).
good luck.
I got a dozen 6 oz medicine bottles from a friend who's a Pharmacist. The red, plastic ones you get liquid medications in. I keep 4-5 filled in the truck, dump one in before each fill up. Usually 25 gallons at the point I fill it up. I've had the same bottles for almost 3 years, no leaking or any sign of the plastic reacting with the Stanadyne. That said, I would prefer a bottle like the ones John R is using.
Custom Home Builder 06-14-2004, 01:25 AM does any one use lucas fuel products i have been useing these since the truck was new and has worked great. right on the bottel it saya an overtreatment will not hurt anything
JohnnyO 06-14-2004, 09:25 PM The tank on the short box is 26 gallons. I find that most of the time I am putting about 22 gallons in when I fill. Which comes close to 6 oz of Stanadyne.
Using the lines on the side of the bottle, 6 oz in 1/2 way between the 12 oz and 8 oz line. (I know what you're thinking... How am I getting 6 oz between the 12 & 8 oz marks. You have to look at the bottle the numbers run from the bottom up.)
I saved a few of the empty Stanadyne bottles and fill them all partially to that 1/2 way point between 12 & 8 oz (6 oz) and just continue to reuse them.
When I fill up I just pour the partialy filled bottle in. AND with the bottle 1/2 way full it pours right in the filler without a funnel and messy funnel storage problems. You now don't have to carry a funnel around.
This may not be very accurate but I think it's good enough.
BTW. This Stanadyne stuff works great!
BLACKDMAX 06-14-2004, 10:13 PM Guys,
What I am trying to say is that you can purchase the Stanadyne Performance formula in a "One Shot" container. There is no need to carry medicine bottles filled from bigger containers or carrying a funnel to pour in tank. That is all I was trying to say.

Camstyn 06-16-2004, 06:22 PM I just splash a little bit into the filler neck. Not nearly as much as the bottle says to. A bottle will last me ~15 fills.
WI Huck 06-17-2004, 11:24 AM Stanadyne Performance Formula is available in a “One Shot” 8 Oz., Pint, ½ Gallon, 5 Gallon, and 55 Gallon sizes. The larger the size you buy, the cheaper the per gallon treatment cost is. I have four pint size bottles that I refill with the ½ gallon when empty. If someone wanted to put a tapper on the five gallon pail that would be the way to go. The down side is that this stuff does not smell very good, and you can get the bottles to leak after some time from not sealing perfectly at the cap. I have a tool box in the bed where I keep it. I do notice that the truck runs better and quieter with the additive compared to without. My truck is a short box, and I use half a pint bottle at each fill up. It does not hurt to over dose it, and at the pulls and races I will use a full pint in that tank.

MaxFarmer 06-18-2004, 11:02 AM Custom home builder: I use the Lucas fuel injector cleaner for gas or diesel engines about every 5 or 6 fill ups or so. Otherwise, I'm running FTTP. I guess I cant say much as to wether I think it helps or not, but I'm a pretty big believer in Lucas products myself and have had no problems using it... I'm sure there's some other people on here that could shed some more light on it...

Jeff1 06-19-2004, 12:46 PM I use the Stanadyne Performance formula and the world formula, both. My duramax runs like a sewing machine!! Plenty of torque and power. I started out using Lucas but went to Stanadyne after learning that GM endorsed the Stanadyne. Yep, the 1/2 gallon bottles leak if you don't tighten them good. Good stuff...no doubt.

Thanks for the site to get dispensers for additives. That is exactly what I have been looking for.
