Someone rear ended my trailer last weekend (full of ATV's) - did a fair amount of damage to the trailer - turned the hitch and bumper down on the truck a few degrees. Other than being bent down - there doesn't appear to be any other damage on the truck...

wondering if anyone knows - can I have the hitch and or bumper straightened out? Or - should i replace the hitch - and have the bumper straightened out... (not sure if they can straighten a hitch..)

I can post pics if it helps... but literally it looks like you pushed down on the receiver and bent it and the bumper about 2-3 degrees - which of course pulled the top of the bumper away from the truck a little less than 1/2 inch..

Feel bad for the 16 year old kid that did it - and his Dad. Kid panicked and made it a hit and run - but thanks to blondestar - they caught him within a few blocks of the accident...

Young man swallowed hard and called me today to apologize for the accident and the hit and run.. couldn't have been easy - could tell he was scared ****less - gotta give props to his old man and him for having him man up...(it's nice to see some kids still raised well to be responsible...)

I need to get it fixed - but don't want to take his old man to the cleaners.. i'll be there someday myself...

I am glad to hear nobody was hurt and yes the damage might be stratightened out, but let the insurance adjusters do their work for you and make the descision. Sometimes throwing new on is the quicker fix but not really the smart choice either. Let them sort it out and then just be fair with them on getting it fixed. I had some kids one time that had been drinking and ran across the neighbors yard into mine and tear out some or the hardscape timbers I had put in to build up the beds stuff was planted, I just asked the parents to send the kids over for whatever time it took to rebuild it, and they agreed, two girls and on of the boys showed up and worked their butts off and when the smart aleck showed up his girl friend gave him the heave ho right in front of the others and let him know what she thought of him. Read about him a few years later getting in trouble again and mom and dad were not able to bail him out and he went to jail for a while. The other you ng guy got a baseball scholarship to go to college and I thought WOW that was great.,

Definatly replace the hitch. The bumper may be able to be fixed.

Good reason to upgrade the hitch. New class 4 or 5 hitch will be less than $200, and good used bumpers are fairly easy to find for less money. Someone here my even give you their stock hitch as most of us replace them due to bending. I'd give you mine, but it's bent and the pin hole is wollard out.

I know this should probably go in the wanted forum but I haven't made enough posts yet to use that. Anyway I just seen this thread, and someone rearended my d-max this weekend and I am in the market for a used bumper if any one has one. Good luck with your situation!
