: 2005 SINGLE-WHEEL 1-TON SHORT BOX
Scotty Seelen 06-10-2004, 04:50 PM Ok, my dealership has yet to get all the details on ordering a 2005 Duramax, and no website has information-that I have found. I know that GM finally offered a single-wheel option for the 3500's on the 2004's-but they HAD to be long boxes.
My question, does anybody know yet if you can order the 2005's in a 3500 series single-wheel SHORTBOX? I'm looking to order a crew cab short box single wheel 3500 GMC SLT.
Too bad it takes GM so long to offer some of these configurations. Ford and Dodge don't seem to have a problem with a 1-ton short box. What's up with that?
Anybody hear of anything?
3500LLY 06-10-2004, 06:20 PM I've seen the list of changes for 2005, well it was just something someone posted on here so its not official or anything but that was not in the list. GM is kinda funny about some things, you can't get a manual transmission with leather interior, doubt i would take the manual over the allison anyways but it is kinda interesting.

Not much more payload capacity.........
Why not order the 2500HD shorty and put an extra spring or air bags in it.

IceMan6533 06-12-2004, 06:47 PM if you havent riden in one of the ford or dodge srw 1tons while pulling a nice sized load, then you wont understand, but if you have then you know why gm is trying to stay away from that, but even with a long bed nothing compares to the towing ride of a dually, period
TEXMudder 06-12-2004, 11:24 PM Engine aside of course, my short bed F350 rode like a dream both loaded, unloaded, and pulling anything I could find. Was it a dually and did it pull like a dually? Nope, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with it being a 1 ton.
exford 06-14-2004, 01:39 PM I agree with TEXMudder, I had a 2000 F350 SRW, and had no problems at all pulling a 10,000# dry 5th wheel. The dual rear wheels just add to your payload, not the GCVWR. Dual rear wheels would actually subtract from your GCVWR. If you look on the gm web site it will give you the 5th wheel tow ratings for all of the options. The 3500 SRW CC has the highest 5th wheel rating out of all of the CC's.

This link will explain the ratings. There is another thread that is talking about dual rear wheels. If you are wanting the 3500 for its capacity, go with it. If you really want a short bed, the 2500 will tow most any 5th wheel. According to the chart, 2500 4x4 CC short box will tow 14,900#, the same as a DRW CC long box. My guess on chevy's reason for not having a short bed 3500: The 3500 DRW is easily modified to a SRW. There must be more to modifing a 2500 short bed to the 9900# GVWR.
IceMan6533 06-15-2004, 09:05 AM i wasnt comparing any tow rating or anything like that, i was comparing the ride quality, all i was saying is that a swb srw 1 ton rides like sh*t compared to a lwb srw 1 ton, but neither can compare to a drw 1ton when pulling a load, well at least on louisiana's bouncy ass roads
exford 06-15-2004, 10:18 AM I can't argue with that, I have never towed with a dually or a short bed 1 ton. I have towed with the long bed 1 ton, and that is my preference. It all depends on what your needs are. Scotty, if you need the heavy ratings, you should not compromise due to wanting a short bed. If your load is covered by the 2500 (witch is fairly high) and you prefer a short bed, get it. The price is nearly the same.
Scotty Seelen 06-15-2004, 11:11 AM Actually, I don't use my truck for towing, just a recreational vehicle. This is the reason I don't need a long box or a dually. It's one of those "it's the latest and greatest, so I need it" things. There's nothing wrong with my 2500, and I'll probably keep it if they DON'T offer the 1-ton configuration I'm looking at-because I wouldn't be upgrading anything. Except for the LLY engine. Which, so far, hasn't outperformed the LB7 by far. I've got my truck for sale on this forum, and have a few local guys looking at buying it. I'm not giving it away, as I've got about $51000 invested in it. So I guess if I sell it, I sell it, and go from there.....
TEXMudder 06-15-2004, 02:37 PM Yes a long bed will ride a little bit better due to the longer wheelbase. I dont use my truck for work and couldnt have a long bed crew cab around town as I can barely make the u-turns with a shorty around here.
