: First Time Playing at the Track
Diesel Power 06-10-2004, 03:45 PM Went to the track for the first time last night, only got to run 3 times. dropped the t-bars 8 turns. ideally they need to be lower. Also i need to launch it a bit harder as I was kinda nervous being this was my first trip to the strip.
Here's the video:

Diesel Power 06-10-2004, 03:57 PM You did better than that with your NOS didn't you David?
hdmax 06-10-2004, 04:03 PM Great job for being your first time. It looked like you were really nervous, so bad that everything was shakinghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
BMDMAX 06-10-2004, 04:34 PM Great job! Your time looks very good for some of your first passes. No shortage of smoke for the whole pass, either so you got plenty of room to better your numbers with some extra air.
Racing these beasts is addictive! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
Diesel Power 06-10-2004, 04:36 PM No i definately wasn't short on smoke.. can't wait for a new turbo.. i'm trying to hold off on the NOS but i may bite the bullet eventuallyhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Friday is test n tune, so hopefully i'll have some better luck then... still working on my launches...
DIESEL 5 06-10-2004, 04:57 PM You did better than that with your NOS didn't you David?
No, I did 8.88@81mph (1/8 mile)
Traction is the biggest problem with the 2wd trucks, my best 60' time is 2.1 on street tires http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
I am waiting on my lift pump & some bigger flare jets...... we'll see what she does next time at the track. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Diesel Power 06-10-2004, 05:39 PM how do you convert 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile times?
Diesel Power 06-10-2004, 05:40 PM how do you convert 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile times?
David - was that 8.88 @ 81 with NOS? if so what did you do w/o it?
DIESEL 5 06-10-2004, 05:42 PM 9.27@78mph #2 only
8.88@81mph with NOS
DIESEL 5 06-10-2004, 05:43 PM Your slip says 8.67@79mph

McRat 06-10-2004, 07:21 PM Congrats! 13.6 is quick enough to dust stock:
LT1 Fbodies, Mustang GT's, Pre '03 Cobras, Lightnings, SRT-4 Neons, etc.
That is actually quicker than 90% of the stock musclecars of 1960's ever ran, including big-blocks.
That is my goal, 13's, and a good towmobile.
TheBac 06-10-2004, 10:34 PM Hey DP!!! NIce run. What're you so embarrassed about....you did good!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Mackin 06-10-2004, 10:41 PM Good job Nick ...
You left pretty hard, take a look see, you almost sucked the starter guy with you in your draft ....

Diesel Power 06-10-2004, 10:49 PM i'm just hoping i can get it down to like 13.4 at the present weight... practice i hope!
Micheal Tomac 06-11-2004, 01:01 AM I thought I would be happy with 13's too until I ran a 13.16 with just a tst comp box, no nitrous.
ghettosled 06-11-2004, 01:40 AM with that mph you should be able to run low 13s if it hooks. take some lessons from tomac on how to get those crazy 60fts. dude, you need to hook up the unit. all you need is a bottle, some line, cheater selenoid and a fogger. hook up your own manual switch.
Trippin 06-11-2004, 02:09 AM how do you convert 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile times?

Diesel Power 06-12-2004, 01:13 AM went back tonight, did a bit better. the allison seems to run faster every run... maybe its me learning too.. dunno!

DMax_Doug 06-12-2004, 01:47 AM Looks like your reaction time and launch are where you made big improvements - great run. Is I1 the 60' time? 1.797 is really moving out!
Trippin 06-12-2004, 01:54 AM That's getting it done! Look out Tomac, Here comes Nick!
Diesel Power 06-12-2004, 02:41 AM yes I1 is the 60' time...
trippin' you're funny.. i'm only 1.5 seconds and about a million passes behind him.. i'm not going to do this on a regular basis, i just wanted to see how she'd run the way she is.. if the power gets stepped up i'll take her back to the track again..
Diesel Tech 06-12-2004, 02:34 PM Good runs Nick. I took your ET and weight (7300lbs) of your truck and calculated the estimate Hp and it comes out to 592.99....... not to bad for a single program.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
Diesel Power 06-12-2004, 03:09 PM Steve,
how does that calculation work?
and yes, i'm pretty happy with the way she ran. the extreme sure kicks it off the line!
Diesel Power 06-12-2004, 05:54 PM Here is another video of 2 other runs last night. My video-taping buddy had to leave before the last run I made which was the fastest.
Second Attempt - Sac Raceway - Low Quality (http://www.wackywack.com/images/dmax/sac_raceway_6-11-04sm.wmv) (Requires Windows Media Player V9.0)
Second Attempt - Sac Raceway - High Quality (http://www.wackywack.com/images/dmax/sac_raceway_6-11-04lg.wmv) (Requires Windows Media Player V9.0)
Diesel Tech 06-12-2004, 06:29 PM To calculate HP from ET and Weight
HP = (Weight/((ET/5.825)^3))
HP = (7300/(13.45/5.825)^3))
HP = 592.99
Remember this is just an estimator and it was developed for NA gasoline engines.
Diesel Power 06-12-2004, 06:49 PM thanks
tbone1227 06-12-2004, 07:25 PM Nice runs Nick, sorry i didnt get a chance to come over - i did manage to catch one of your runs after we talked - i was on the bottom half of that hill - i would have been hard pressed to miss that with all that black smoke blowing out - LOL...man that program hammers !! Well definitely have to get together next time out
ghettosled 06-12-2004, 08:52 PM nice 60 ft! how much boost were you able to launch with? the starter must have loved you for lining up in the left lane everytime :-)
heartbeatcanada 06-12-2004, 08:57 PM Nice run. Addicting, so watch out.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Get some air in a bottle, and hold onhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
Diesel Power 06-13-2004, 01:16 AM yes a little laughing gas would make the party more fun, but i'm going to personally try to hold out for a bigger turbo first. ya never know though!
ghetto- honestly i don't watch the boost gauge.. i ran it up to 2000+ RPM and let her go.. honestly counting yesterday i've only made 7 passes down the track in my life, and i need more practice to get things repeatable.. however i do belive that if i continue to beat it up at the track every week i WILL eventually break something.. so i'm basically done until something new comes along to improve my times..
but it is REALLY fun!
