I just had my truck serviced at the dealership, normal service, had the fuel filter replaced, oil change, & trasmission filter changed. I noticed that my truck was running a little rough at idel. I was was not getting the same response when passing, hesitation. This morning my truck wouldn't start, my first tought was the fuel filter, sure enough, I primed the filter, had to pump 7 or 8 times before it was completely primed. I called the dealer & told them to tell the mech guy that the filter wasn't primed, of course they said they were sorry & gave me a free oil change for the next time I come in. My question is if it was primed correctly is it possible to have a bad fuel filter? Has anyone ever experinced this type of problem?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Sounds like a air leak at the filter. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I'll check it tonight to see if I'm still having a problem, thanks for the info.

Might want to check the WIF sensor also to make sure the drain valve is closed all the way. The tech may have opened it for some reason when changing it over to the new filter and not shut it off completely. There's an o-ring on that too.Edited by: TC Dmax

Same problem this morning, had to prime it again, it was an air leak. Took it in & they replaced the filter, seems to be running smoother now, no hesitation or rough idel. They gave me a free oil change & a GMC hat for my trouble. Thanks for the info guys, I'll be sure to remind them the next time so they will be more careful of the O ring.
Just bought a 2500HD DMAX/ALI (second hand) with 93K. This past weekend was first major haul up some fair size mole hills. We were hauling a 4-horse trailer goose-neck (5000lbs) with 2 horses (total 2200lbs). We were only travelling between 65-70mph so when we started uphill I would steadily put the accelerator down as we decelerated. When she downshifted around 60mph and increased power we experienced some quick hesitations (almost jerky) until it shifted up or I let off the gas. I noticed that this event doesn't happen below 60mph if she downshifts. I checked into the previous owner's service records and found that although he maintained regular LOF changes, his last fuel filter change was at 52K. Would a dirty fuel filter give me this hesitation or jerkiness at increased power needs?
I tried this without the trailer and could still feel the jerkiness over 60mph when I floor it.
Appreciate your input.

Nash,
It's possible your filter is causing those issues, but don't wait for someone who knows more than me to tell you to change the filter ASAP.
