: Well, I beat a 600, but not by enough!
2MuchFun 06-09-2004, 04:57 PM A guy I know just got a new Dodge/Cummins 600 quad cab 4x2 LWB. It has just over 500 miles on it and is bone stock.
Mine is a 04' LB7 CC LWB 4x4. I have Edge Juice/attitude and cat-back exhaust (still waiting on new intake pipe). I have just over 7500 on the truck and am running 35s too.
We did a couple roll ons from about 60-70 mph and I walked away, but not by enough!! That damn think runs Strong for being brand new and stock (He goes with the theory "break em' in HARD". http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
I hit 1300 degrees and 23.2 Lbs. of boost. I had to back out of it! I know when EGTs get that high, the juice backs off.
Any input/advice for next time?
I have my EGT alarm set at 1240. So is that when it backs down? Should I raise the EGT alarm to keep it from backing down?
Does 4x4 and 35s affect my performance that much?
Carbon04 06-09-2004, 09:21 PM Hit enter twice and toggle up to increase the number of minutes. This shuts off any defueling from egt's. You were probably defueling quite heavily. Do that and run him again. You won't be dissapointed. I have yet to find any STOCK diesel, be it a 6.0L Powerstroke or a Cummins 600 that comes even remotely close. Tow/Haul helps a stock trans also.
Max Power 06-09-2004, 09:33 PM If you do a tranny upgrade you will get a lot more in 5th. It will be backing off pretty good in with the juice/attitude and a stock tranny.
2MuchFun 06-09-2004, 10:06 PM Yep, in the records file it indicated 100% backdown.
I know Max, I got hit with a few grand in medical bills so I gotta rebuild a bit before I go see Mike L. :D
hdmax 06-09-2004, 10:20 PM You can bet the 35`s killed your power if you did not kick it down to 4th gear. With those 35`s your gear ratio is like stock tires and 3.25 rear end gears. Not a lot of kick in the pants at 60+ mph.
That and the tires will make the transmission slip a lot quicker then stock tires, so I am sure the Juice/Attitude was cutting most of the power between the EGT`s and tranny slip.
Yea yea....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Wickedsprint 06-10-2004, 12:11 AM The new 600s are dogs speed wise..but that is not what they are made for.
mannytranny 06-10-2004, 01:02 AM What power setting were you at when you races him?
If a 600 can come close to beating a Duramax with a power adder, than thats something!
Muncie had a aweful lot of fast Dodges..... including the fastest ones. They also ruled the sledpulls. Now I see from the dark side view how some people have trouble seeing trucks as anything but less than what they own. Switching brands rounds you out in a good way.

Max Power 06-10-2004, 11:16 AM Hoot, I must admit, I envy you. So many people have a hard time seeing past what they own. A lot have a hard time getting over the 'but it's wrapped in a dodge' syndrome. You were able to make that leap of faith. Now you are one of them. The Elite. Hell, your a dodge poster boy now! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif You should be very proud.
By the way, which one is you?

I love this Dodge so far. The trip to Muncie was a blast. Truck runs great.... what can I say?... The longer I own it the more I like it. Doesn't make GM trucks any different in my mind but so so far the Dodge BS is just that.

Max Owner 06-10-2004, 06:37 PM A truck is a truck is a truck..... Its like an a$$hole, ya gotta have one. Dodge.... GM...Chev...For... aw heck, I tried.
Frank Blum 06-10-2004, 07:30 PM Hoot, have you done any towing? How is the auto trans? Later! Frank
Ray403Dmax 06-10-2004, 08:38 PM That's got to be weird to have only 4 gears. I don't know how those Dodge guys do it? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Didn't do any towing with the GMC so it's not a killer for me.
Hey I keep bringing up Muncie... Tell you what.. They were ripping that sled down the track with more confidence than any Ford or GM owner and that's a fact. Just calling it as I see it. And I did see some squirrely GM front ends. I do miss the Allison. You can't leave Muncie after seeing all the Dodges and watching thier pure dominance without having gained respect for them. I doubt many Ford or GM boys left there thinking Dodge is junk.Edited by: hoot
Max Owner 06-10-2004, 10:37 PM Alright, lets NOT get a truck war going again. Personal preference. Besides Hoot has some perspective that we don't.
Mackin 06-10-2004, 11:22 PM So HOOT when are you getting in the pulling circuit where the Dodge dominates ??
See many Cummings commuters pulling or just speculating as yourself saying my truck could do that if I had the ,insert your own five letter word ??
Mac http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
That's right MAC the Dodge boys have played long and hard. Cummins needs twins or a big turbo and injectors to compete. The Dmax gets away without the same but falls short.
Both need tranny mods so what's the big advantage? I'm just spewing some observations. The Fords look good but fall short and often break drivehafts.
But MACKYPOO.... just because I'm not a football player doesn't mean I can't make observations and comment on them. Or are you saying if you don't spend big bucks you don't have the right to speak? You know me better than that. Remember.... for me it was 90hp Juice + Propane = Headgasket. For you it was mutiple transmission jobs. You play you pay. We're just weanies in the big picture. Takes a good chunk of change to do the real thing unless you run a beater and just moderately compete. I can't afford it and the time it takes.
You gotta do Muncie MAC... it's a great time and overall nobody does any brandbashing there. The Dodge people are about as polite as can be. Edited by: hoot

Max Power 06-11-2004, 12:28 AM You have to remember close doen't mean much. Have a look at the race posted between BR Power source and Mtomac. There is over a second difference in the 1/4 mile but the race looks pretty close. Edited by: Max Power
Ray403Dmax 06-11-2004, 12:52 AM Both need tranny mods so what's the big advantage?
From what I gather the big disadvantage for Dodge owners is the total cost to be competitive. You got to admit that those Dodge enthusiasts have made huge dollar commitments. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Mackin 06-11-2004, 08:05 AM That's an interesting analogy Hoot ... You are a Monday morning Quarterback of sorts ....
Bucks wasn't the five letter word .... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif But your on the right track with Foot-Balls....
You didn't think I'd let you Band Wagon silently ,did ya ??

That depends on how competitive you wanna be. If pulling with a GM is cheap than they should be owning the pulls if they put big bucks in them. Maybe that's still coming. If they do it you may start seeing straight axle conversions.
All this talk about going 700 rwhp. You think the Dmax will do that with just a box and drugs and not take a dump? Headgaskets? Need o-ringing? Might get a few runs but if it doesn't last that's no good. The Cummins just seems much simpler and easier to play with if you have the bucks to do real engine mods.
MAC don't turn into a Duke on me and just criticize me personally for calling it as I see it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif As I see it isn't gospel. I'm not a pulling expert but the Dodge seems to have advantages from an overall truck perspective. Not sure what it is but it always seems to show in the end of the pull.
The Muncie Dyno winner.....
Highest HP at the Event went to Opie from WA at 738hp and he maxed out the dyno at 1200lbs of torque after pulling 18000lbs all the way to Muncie in his Dodge.
Tomac is not alone pulling with his competition truck.Edited by: hoot

I agree! I never said nothin bad about the Cummins, but I would have expected more. I guess a +5 to +10 mph passing is not too bad at high speed.
I was on level 5, but I recorded 100% backdown. As I mentioned I hit 1300F and eased off plus I was at 23.2 lbs. of boost which is the most I've ever seen. I think the max is 25 right?
I have always kinda felt that it did better in level 3 and now I think maybe it was'nt just my butt.. I hope it was the EGTs causing the backdown and not too much tranny slip. I didnt seem to feel tranny slip, but I suspect I may not in the higher gears.
So Im guessing that in level 3 Im getting a good hard pull while in level 5 it backs down..
Im gonna put on my intake and stock wheels/tires and get him to go from a dead stop. That should learn him! :D
