Hi!! I have a couple of questions.

I checked my front and rear they are both low. Ive had the truck for about three weeks and it has about 500 miles. Heres my questions:

Should I add fluid to fill it up or change it??

Ive read on here I can use Mobil 1 75W-90 in rear it takes about 4 quarts correct??

Also Ive read some people use it in front but manual says use 80W-90 is it ok to use Mobil 1 75W-90 or do they make 80W-90?? 2 quarts?

By using these am I voiding my warranty??

I do have the white cap on front.

Im about to go on a vacation and will put approx. 2000 miles on the truck should I go ahead and change oil now or when I get back??

I havent pulled anything yet and wont be pulling on vacation either.

Im planning on using Shell Rotella 15W-40 oil and AC/Delco PF2232 filter.

Am I forgetting anything?

Thanks

If you wish to top it off with GM "grape juice" it is quite costly. You will probably need 1.5 quarts for the rear and maybe one more quart for the front. So, most likely you'll need 3 quarts.

I drove 5000 miles with mine low before I realized it and changed it out for Mobil 1 75W90 front and rear. No problems, but the old oil was dirty and a bunch of metal filings came out on the magnetic drain plug.

Rotella is a very popular oil, I think you'll be fine there. I've used it and bought a bunch more for the future. I think you'd be well served to do your first oil change before your trip. Again, I waited longer for mine, but in retrospect I should have changed it sooner (according to George Morrison and other people on this list.)

Too much maintenance costs a little money anda little time, too little maintenance costs a lot of money and a lot of time. You choose.

If I'm not mistaken....I think GM recommends changing the diff's at 5,000 miles or after 500 miles of towing. I waited too long for my pickup....changed the wife's Trailblazer at 4,000 miles....really glad I did. Really ugly looking fluid.

I put synthetic 75W 90 in fronts and rears. Our trucks take 4 quarts rear and two quarts front. The transfer case takes two quarts of a Dexron III rated fluid...I used synthetic there as well. All were very easy to drop and refill....I used ramps to get it up off the ground....and a cheap $3 hand pump to pump the fluid.

I'd wait until you have 10,000 miles before switching to synthetic motor oil.

Good Luck,

Dont top it off. Change it! When you drain it you will know why. I used mobil1 in the front and rear and changed the transfer case with synthetic dex after plowseason and 8k miles or so. I would wait till you get a bit of miles/4x4 time before you change the case. Check the DIY forum for specifics. I changed my rear at 500 miles and will change it and the rest again soon(22k now with no towing)

I changed my engin oil and filter and changed my trany filter at 500 too and then again at 3k. Dont forget the doughnut magnet on the alli filter and definatly change the alli filter with your first oil change.

I tend to go overboard on things though.....

They cant screw with your warrantee on using different fluids unless they can prove what you did or didnt do caused the problem.

Go ahead and change the fluids in the diffs. I changed mine at 1500 miles and they were both nasty! That was after about 600 miles of towing. I used the grape juice, but if you prefer mobil, use that. Also, check the front end for lube needs. Both of my tie rod ends were dry when I checked the front end at 300 miles. I think maybe the PDI missed/skipped them as they are not very easy to get to.
