I have an odd problem that just started recently. Factory Bose set up with an eclispe navigation. Everything works fine. Install all the correct harness for the onstar and bose. But my problem is, when I get in or out of my truck, I get a static, crackling noise from my drivers door speaker. Doesn't matter if the truck is on or off. It happens. No other speakers at all. I have search top to bottom. I have also checked the grounds from the interface and radio. Everything is good. I'm at my whits end with this. I am a full time installer for car audio, truck accessories, etc so this isn't my first rodeo. And to top it all off it's my own person truck so it drives me nuts. Also, I notice the only time this does happen is when my 4wd service light comes on. I have searched for that problem to, only thing I find on that is to change out ignition switch or the 4wd button switch. So I actually have 2 problems, one the static from the driver door speaker, and the 4wd service light. They have to be related somehow. A bad ground in the truck itself or I don't know. BTW 2006 Silverado 2500hd lbz crew cab
Find yourself a list of the grounding points on that truck, then clean each one.
The one that comes to mind as a problem point is the frame to body ground under the driver floor board. Seems to cause a lot of different problems.
I have already cleaned the 2 terminals and the body mount of all debris and any corrosion. It was nice and shiny.. Not change. Do you know where I can find a list of all grounding points? As I do agree it's a grounding issue or possibility that I have a wire/harness that is grounding out or broken.
As only a user, not a vendor or otherwise connected to: "AllDataDIY.com", that is what I use. It is a subscription site that has good reference works for many vehicles including wiring diagrams. I believe they have a commercial subscription available also. They also have a code look-up, and the diagnostic charts that go with each code. More economical than chopping down a few trees for the printed shop manuals.
I'd be blaming the Bose/ Onstar adapter install, myself. Could it be wired wrong? Sounds like the Databus isn't getting the right signal to shutdown the bose. It should shut down the Amps when it shuts down the radio. I've seen people mate, incorrectly, the adapter to the truck, thinking that one of the radio harness wires was IGN, when, in fact, the truck has no IGN wire to the radio. IIRC, the databus wire is orange, and, your adapter is sending 12v down the Databus line, if it wired incorrectly.
Thinking outside the box here, but, the driver's speaker is also the Chime speaker. Could the adapter have the Amps off, but still allow the chime to be sent?
Nothing to do with the adapter. It did it with the factory radio. I do car audio, car and truck accessories for a living. It's my job, income. I know it's wired correctly. I have double checked it myself 3 times. The interface is good. Swapped out with a different brand and still the same thing. It's a ground issue some where. Where are the typical ground problems on these trucks?
Thanks for helping me out on this. But none of this cured the problem. But luckily I did find the problem. Believe it or not it was the fuse under the hood. I just happened to go and test all fuses, I get to the last one and it loose.. It was fully seated but you could wiggle the fuse back and forth. So whenever I would get in or out of the truck it would set everything off or go over a bump. Static in the speaker, service 4wd light. I just "adjusted" the terminals and made sure the fuse fit snuggle all is good. Thanks for all of the suggestions!
Okay, I went out and took pictures of the fuse block and circled the fuse that was my problem. I can get more pictures in the day light if needed. I could help others out or not. The fuse is in the bottom row, 2nd one from the end. All the attached photos are taken from the fender staring at the fuse block.
Thanks again for all the suggestions and the help. This was really p*$#&^g me off.
I also spoke to some GM tech's today about this issue. There are 3 main reasons why 4wd service light comes on. 1. The ignition switch needs replacement. 2. Grounds under the driver side on the body mount, and Ground zone 18 circuit 1851 in the dash, high in the dash not in the kick panel like it shows. 3. Truck/SUV needs ECM, BCM, TCM, DDM, PDM, IPC updated, 2004-06 and classic 07 has new flashes for this problem. There are a couple of other minor issues for this problem. The encoder ground by the encoder itself, the front actuator, the 4 wheel drive switch. The switch itself is only an issue for the auto 4wd switch. Not likely for any of us that have the HD's. This is everything that I have gathered in the last 24 hrs off the net and from the dealers. Hope it helps someone else out.
I would agree. But from personal experience, there is a lot more on the circuit. I had more problems then just static and 4wd light. I had the onstar turn on by itself. I personally have seen many thing happen that shouldn't happen. Especially working with 12v. But when you have a bad ground or voltage lose, weird things happen. How far can you trace that circuit back? I would be curious to see what else is on that circuit.
How far can you trace that circuit back in the manual? There is more then one thing ran on that fuse/circuit. My cover is wrong for my truck, I don't know what amperage needs to be there. I bought this truck as a theft recovery. It was pieced together. Badly. So I have been working all the bugs out one by one. Slowly getting correct.
Are you having similar problems? If you are, hi jack my thread and maybe I can help you. I know these trucks pretty well. This is my 3rd one and I have worked on many. From accessories to any electrical add-on's
i was having a similar problem as you hitting bumps, and such would just cause static driver door... a few weeks ago I had to jump the truck while it was raining outside, and when i did i dropped jumper cable leads and arc'd like crazy as it landed on top of the battery and since then that speaker has not worked, but I am still getting occasional static on through the speak when I hit bumps or the other thing I have noticed is when I have a passenger in the front seat it is guaranteed that I will have static through that speaker. I had the sound system professionally installed and had them look at everything and it tests ok. If you have any ideas I'm all open. I don't want to replace the head unit I like it stock and I have memphis 6ix for front door speakers and 10" sub under the back seat.
My money is on a failed speaker. Or a broken wire in the door harness, usually one inch in from the accordian boot anchor, right about where the tape ends that holds the accordian boot on.
If it's an '03 or newer, DO NOT pry out the window switch assy to remove the door panel. Only '02 and older have a removable switch panel assy. If you do try to pry out the switch assy, you WILL break the door panel, and, possibly the switch.
My money is still on a bad speaker. I've replaced one or both front speakers on nearly every '05,'06, and '07 here. And, most were intermittent.
b/c I replaced my door speakers in my 03 2500LD and it fixed the intermittant sound working at all. But now on my 08 since i bought the truck was on and off sound not working so i had them replaced, and still intermittent. and no it sounds like only the tweeter is working on occasion from the door, and I can't hear my chime half the time because of it. I thought it may be the ground on the frame under the driver side door so I unhooked it and clean it up with wire brush and layed back down and still have the problem.
