LMM Battery life

I have 75k miles on my truck in the sig. Now that the cooler temps are upon us here I am noticing that its starting a little harder than normal. Could my batteries be going? I did a search and found a few threads about brand names of batteries to upgrade too but nothing about battery life.

How long should my factory set last? And whats the best brand to upgrade to? I do have a plow and strobes that will cause additional draw so what do you guys think?

How's that alternator working? Just a suggestion to check like batteries, starter and alt. every fall and spring. That's a habit that takes time but saves my butt on break down.

alt seems to be working fine. It only starts hard in the morning when its cold. And when I say "hard" I mean slow cranking. After I drive to a job and leave anywhere from 2-7 hours later it starts normaly. I'm just worried with the colder weather coming its only going to get worse...

I like the AGM bats myself. Optima, Exide Orbital, Odyssey. The wet cell stuff the most expensive longest warranty that will fit. The Exide fits the best and I did not test the Odyssey. Oh yeah top post and reversed polarity over the 'standard' top post. See my sig.

Life is less than 2 years in the heat. Like the extreme heat the passenger side battery takes towing and worse in 115+ Arizona degrees.

The passenger side battery failed at 1.5 years and ~85K on mine.

Modern battery testers can test without disconnecting the batts. I bet your passenger side one is toast. Catch it soon enough, but, you know it is best to replace them in pairs.

Your engine will start on just one battery but, well, the sound gives it away with slow cranking.

me too

I just went through the same thing- around 90k on the factory batteries. With the cooler mornings, it was getting harder and harder to start. Got them checked and the passenger side was the weak link. Tested out at only 1 CCA vs 660 (according to the battery label). The driver's side was still OK but I had also read / heard that you should replace both together.

sounds like batteries are getting weak…the delco 7 year bats have been great, not the 6 year, but the 7. 50 month free replacement warranty…and then pro rated after the 50th month.

Those factory batteries are not the best. Replaced both at the first of the year with 3 years and 60,000 miles on them. No start when it was down to 20 degrees unless it was plugged in. The battery in the 2008 Tahoe died this week with no warning. 3 years old and 33,000 miles on it. The Tahoe had an internal short I suspect. Charged it and it be dead by morning sitting on the shelf.

I'm going through the same thing with my LLY-when its been sitting overnight it cranks over slow but is fine afterward. I guess 5 years and 66k miles isn't too bad for the originals

thanks

Thanks guys, I guess I'll start shopping around. From what i've read on war wagons thread it looks like the odyssey battery is one of the best. Where should I look to get the best deal on a set? I've had good luck with die hards in the past, whats everyone else think?
