**** that's expensive for that module...but I always wondered if there was a way to utilize the onstar mic as a bluetooth mic. Very cool!

That may be the reason this guy wants to disable it. If you are getting chased by the cops, they can shut it down.

I agree, I think most of them are ridiculous.

Ok - so you can have GM track you at will and collect engine /driving data on your truck, while denying you warranty if they so choose. BTW, since we don't know exactly what "data" it is they collect, I'd rather NOT let them know how much power the truck makes or what the max PSI my Turbo generates is. Personally, I'll pass and keep my life as much to myself as possible. What I do in MY 100% PAID-FOR truck is my own f_cking business and no none else's. That doesn't make ME certifiably nuts, it just makes you ignorant as to what's really going on and what some people will tolerate as part of life.

You make me laugh so hard. I'll be back in a few.. I got to go disable my onstar.. because I think the government knows where I am parked.. and I added a 90 hp tune... and my emissions system is missing.

I hope I don't go to jail tonight.

Oh yeah, and the government probably heard me talking dirty to my girlfriend in the truck. My privacy has been scrutinized!

Actually NOT - I just checked my Z06...I had put the system back together / pulled the Onstar fuse and had forgotten I re-did it that way, but Onstar has been totally dead since then, so that works just fine. Think I'll check the manual now to see about the fuse location. Far as the rest goes, they indicate in the Onstar license agreement that they collect all types of data on the vehicle/driver etc...and that the "licensee" agrees to all of it. Here you go --

disconnect the on-star antenna and put a 75 ohm resister on the end of the cable. this will shunt any signal both receiving or transmitting

some idiots will never learn.

hey while you're at it, cancel your cell phone and credit cards too, because you are 10x more likely to be tracked down by big brother with those things than you are onstar. GM has enough problems with saving money/keeping afloat. Do you really think they give a shit enough to keep track of how fast you are going or if your truck has a tune in it? (even tho neither of those things are able to be tracked by the VCIM)

Whatever - you can choose to put your life out there like the idiot that you refer to, for everyone to scavenge. If Onstar didn't think there was any value in using or selling the (MY) data they collect from ME or MY vehicle, they wouldn't bother, but they do. I prefer my privacy...

This is exactly now why we need services like Lifelock

I ask a simple question on how to disable Onstar and only that, and get a plethora of stupid, off topic answers...anyway...gee, what a big surprise.

I could care less about what others think as to why I want to disable it...I only want to disable it...is that too complex to understand?
