Shift indicator

My 2002 just started to loose the shift indicator lights right after the truck warms up. When it is cold and I shift into reverse to back out of garage, all is ok as well as when I first shift into drive(D). When it warms up, the indicator light goes out, but all letters(PRND321) are lit. Then when I put into park, the indicator sticks on reverse(R). Also at the point when I shut off truck, the electric door locks fail to unlock. This just began happening. Everything else appears normal. Any ideas? Truck has 73,000 miles. Does my whole dashboard need to be replaced to fix shift indicator?

I agree, sounds like the beginning of a failed NSBU switch. I had those symptoms and then by the end of the week my tranny started acting strange. Your transmission will probably start acting funny also and might try and diagnose the problem and go into limp mode.

Where is the switch? ON Allison? Or under dash? Any idea of cost?
Thanks for your help

The switch is on the left side of allison tranny. $91 from Merchant Automotive. All the info you need to change it is in the sticky at the top of the Allison OEM forum.

If you replace the switch, go to an Allison dealer, not a GM dealership. I got a brand new, updated tan switch at an Allison dealer for $51.

Do you think the doors failing to unlock is related to NSBU switch?

Yes, that was one of the symptoms of mine when my NSBU switch failed.

It turned out to be the dash cluster. $395 installed at dealer.

Did that take care of your door lock problem?
