onstar isn't working

Okay this one is a little tricky. My truck has Onstar, it's not activated, but when I press the blue button or emergency button nothing happens. What happens is the lights that light up onstar button seems to flicker on and off like the mirror has a short or is broken. I have checked the INFO and RADIO fuses and they are okay.

The compass and temp display in the mirror work fine, and the green light next to the mirror power button is on solid green.

Any ideas on how to fix it? Could the mirror be bad? Is there an onstar box somewhere I can check the connections on?

Thanks!!

I have an 03, with the old analog OnStar. I never used it, and didn't upgrade to the new digital OnStar for an arm and a leg.

Do the old analog versions still have service?

Well it's been years since I have used onstar so I don't know if they do. I heard you had to upgrade to digital and sign up for a year of service if you were going to keep onstar. Could that be my problem, maybe I need the new digital box?

Two green lights illuminated correct? One for the mirror on the left and one for OnStar on the right?

I cancelled my onstar service, but it still says "Onstar ready" when I accidentally push the button.

I don't think I have two green lights on my mirror. I have one that is solid green on the left, and the only other lights I see are the backlit Onstar buttons. They are backlit sometimes but other times they flicker on and off.

Also, according to GM Vehicle info system, my onstar is active... but it's not working. Could the GM info system be wrong?

As ridiculous as this may sound, ph 1-888-4ONSTAR..........EVEN THOUGH you're inactive with them currently. Have them 'ping' the vehicle; that's what I'd do. Hope this helps! FWIT, I've heard that they'll open your door locks even though your subscription is lapsed and you need to gain entry to your own vehicle............trust me on this.

Even with it not activated the emergency button still will connect onstar.I got a flashing red light a few days ago and onstar said they lost communication with the ECM on the truck. But that cleared when I cycled the key
