Need a New Power Steering Pump

I guess after 200K somethings tend to wear out. The pulley on the Power Steering Pump came off today as I was headed to the hotel I'm staying at in Nashville. I was hoping there might be a fellow DP'er who could help me get this change in the hotel parking lot.

I have the basic hand tools with me. Would anyone be available to help me with this? Im staying at the Town Place Suites on Elm Hill Pike. I'm working on the Omni Hotel project and get done/back to the hotel around 3-4pm. There's a Autozone just a couple of miles away that I can get the pump and pulley. But I'll need some help putting the new pulley on the pump, and a drain pan and some liquidd wrench could come in handy I suppose, if anyone else has done this and can think of any other tools let me know.

Thanks Kevin.

There must be some Nashville Members out there who could lend this guy a hand.

I'd like to help out but I'm not sure I could get there until about 7:30 or 8:00pm tonight.

I don't get home from work until about 6:30pm and I'm about an hours drive from your hotel.

If you think you'll still be at it by then, I can give you a call and see if you still need help. You'll have to PM me your phone number.

Are you planning to replace the entire pump or just put on a new pulley? I've never changed one on a Dmax, but I've done a few on GM gassers.

In additional to regular hand tools you'll likely need a pulley installer if the pulley is a press fit. They have them at Autozone and you can usually get them through their borrow a tool program (buy and return for full refund).

Sounds like you've had some rough luck lately. Did they get your water pump taken care of last week?

Yeah got the water pump taken care of last week. I'm planning on doing a new pump and pulley. I figure the reason this pulley came off is because the shaft has some wear and I don't want to have to worry about the pulley walking off again. Is there a spec on how deep the new pulley has to go?

Garrett if you could loan me a drain pan and a jack so that I can lift the front end to get the old fluid out that would be much appreciated.

I'll pm you my number.

That shouldn't be a problem. As I said, it might be a little later this evening though. I'm trying to get things wrapped up here a little early at work so I can get on the road home sooner.

Were you planning on doing the work tonight or just gathering the parts and equipment today to do the work tomorrow? Or a little of both?

I also have a pulley installer kit I can bring along, but again, might not be till closer to 7:30 or 8pm.

BTW, I think I know where you are over there. Should be an Advance Auto down a couple blocks to the west at the Donelson Pike intersection and an AutoZone about a mile or so north up Donelson Pike if you need to pickup parts and/or tools.

I got the pump off with some help of one of my co-workers. The way GM routes some of the battery/electical cables makes removal a PIA. I'll be going to get a new pump and pulley later this evening or tomorrow, I'll install the new pump tomorrow, since it will be getting dark in a couple of hours and I need the daylight since I'm in a parking lot.

The steering fluid looked like used motor oil. Guess I'll need to get it flushed out.

Thanks for all the help support from the Mods.
