Noisy Power Steering Pump

Here within the last couple of weeks, I've been getting some whining noise comming from my PS pump ONLY when setting at a stop light with my breaks applied. As soon as a I remove my foot from the pedal, it stops. No noise when steering, just breaking. Fluid level is good, and everything seems to be working fine. Is the pump just getting weak or what? Steering works good, and so do the breaks. It doesnt do it everytime or even every day, just once in awhile. Any ideas?? Thanks.

Mine do it also, usually when turning the steering wheel and applying the brakes. It's just strain on the pump. You can try a flush on the booster system. Search the DIY section and follow the directions. Might help the whinning.

I have had good results on flushing the system and replacing with synthetic if the pump isnt already trashed, on more than just GM trucks as well. The fluid does wear out just like any other oil.

Completely agreed. A good flush and refill of the power steering fluid with a synthetic fluid is probably the first step I would take. You not feeling any looseness in the gear box or anything correct?
