Im subscribing to this thread.. I need airbags/helper springs soon. I dont tow 5er, but at times I have really heavy loads in my truck bed due to construction work....Few questions for you guys...
whats the difference between the firestone/ airlift setups with brackets vs. the cognito airbags?
What are the pros and cons going with the firestone/airlift with the brackets anyways??
See pictures in garage. Firestone or airlift will be fine, you just need a spacer to go under the bags. My neighbor made mine for me, work great for towing the toy hauler.

Wow, sounds bad for you. Just so you know they have worked great for me and I have taken the truck off road, actually pull the trailer into the sand dunes where we set up camp. After that we take the truck in the dunes for some wheelin. Never had any problems with mine and 2 sets of friends that used to go with us.
Mine have never even come close to folding over. Or tearing up the bags. Maybe I have mine set up good or maybe it was my neighbor who made the air bag risers for me.
Whatever the case well worth the money spent for me.
I made up my own, due to my lift and the arch in my leaf springs. Used a Firestone W21-760-2107 reversible sleeve rated at 3500 lbs each. Used the bump stop pad on the rear diff for a base , welded a 3x3 on there and a round plate on top of that the same size as the bag plate, and for the top of the frame rail a 2x4 on the top with a round plate for the top of the bag. You can see from the pictures, sorry for the blurry one. Have been off road at Glamis and no worries. You are not running around in a pre runner with 2 feet of rear travel. If you have any ?? hope I can help.

Did you leave the bag offset on that lower HSS without a gusset? Looks pretty sketchy to me. Why did you choose to use such light material? For what it was worth, you should have beefed it up more.
I installed gussets, 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 on the bottom mounts, could not find the pictures with them. ?? Light material ?? on what the flat plate ? I have the gusset under the plate, on the top the 2 bolt and the air fitting kind of make it hard to center everything. I do not tow a fifth Wheel , only a tag along, and the most air pressure I have needed was 20 psi, to lift about 2 - 3 inches, No big loads.
call off road canada and ask for george or dacey. 403-327-7722. they have a set of custom brackets/extensions made that they put on my truck that are great. I will get some pictures later and post. but this setup works great. add your airbag and your set.
I'm on the hunt for an airbags system now as well. However my issue is not height(at normal ride height), but travel since my suspension articulates quite a bit. I came across these and was wondering what your guys opinions are.
I would think they would be beneficial in my application since my truck isn't overly lifted, but it would still allow my axle to articulate and drop out when really rippin off road. The only downsides I see would be snow/dirt/rock debris building up in the cradle. And possibly noise from the bag slapping.
